Dairy cheese on a vegan pizza!!!
I went in to Pizza Me to order in-person, I clearly asked for a vegan pizza. The staff member repeated my order back to me, she verbally confirmed VEGAN pizza. She then shouted this through to the kitchen.
I got my pizza a few minutes later, went home and thought it looked strange. I've had vegan pizza from Pizza Me many times before though and their vegan cheese is very realistic. So I trusted it and ate a bite. Big mistake!
I could tell there was something wrong with the pizza. The texture of the cheese and the 'stringyness' was off, as well as the colour. I haven't tasted dairy cheese in a very long time so it was not obvious to me in terms of smell or taste. I continued eating because I have ordered from Pizza Me many times before and trusted them, but slowly I became convinced it was not right. I asked my non vegan partner to try some, and they confirmed it was dairy cheese.
I am lactose intolerant and vegan. Not only was this deeply upsetting to my personal beliefs and values, it also made me unwell for several days. I have been having tummy pains, cramps, diarrhea, and nausea ever since I ate the pizza - classic symptoms for me of lactose intolerance.
Thankfully I do not have a severe dairy allergy, "just" an intolerance. Yet this has still made me unwell for days and I am disgusted at eating dairy after nearly 3 years vegan. Especially when I so clearly communicated with the staff that I wanted a vegan pizza.
This is a huge breach of trust and food safety, and simply should not be happening in this day and age. I will not be returning to Pizza Me, and encourage anyone with a dairy allergy, intolerance, and vegans to proceed...
Read moreReally lovely authentic pizzas, no thick bready tasteless bases here, but heavenly thin bubbled soft & slightly cruncy charcoaled wonderfulness. Plus the toppings are fab, no meat feasts or veg Supremes to be seen - that the other 99% of pizza places are fixated on, where you get excited to spot olives as an 'out there' option.... These are pizzas as they're meant to be, modern ingredients & ideas to inspire you & make your mouth water. Their big pizzas are gargantuan, (biggest pizza I've ever seen!), & all though they may seem a little more expensive than your normal takeaway pizza joint, one of their large pizzas does me at least 3 meals, including a few cheeky 'Just one more bite (slice!) whilst I'm next to the fridge' moments. I've tried the butternut version which delish & made my own which also was pretty darned fantastic. This is the best pizza place in Brighton compared to any other restaurant or take away - & I'm not vegan or vegetarian, try it you'll never eat another veg supreme with extra olives ever again. NOTE I'd suggest not ordering when they're busy, got a terrible pizza tonight which is not like them. Burnt, missing toppings I'd paid extra for, caramelized onions were just soggy fried onions, not enough cheese (mostly tomato sauce). Just annoying as i was hungry & looking forward to it. However they promised a free pizza next time with no argument & were apologetic putting it down to a crazy busy Saturday night. Everyone's entitled to mistakes right? But yup lesson learnt order in the week not...
Read moreI think the business owner needs to retrain the chef on how to speak to customers and staff. I’ve witnessed him shouting at the lady at the front counter whilst she was serving a customer. I’ve complained in the past over missing items and tried to raise the issue of the aggression from the chef, I was accused of lying and that all I’m after is ‘free food’ it’s shockingly bad for a business to treat people this way and shouldn’t be tolerated. I won’t be using this service again and would strongly advise others against trusting this business with your money if something where to go wrong. They simply don’t seem to care about customer satisfaction or loyalties with them and you have no choice but to like it or lump it since there quite happy to tell you to take your money elsewhere..
To the person who’s replied.. I haven’t got a second review.. think you’ve got me mistaken. I have reviewed your business based on our company’s use of your delivery service. I am appalled at your responses and your lack of ownership over your mistakes. I work with small businesses and understand the hardships some face.. but like I said.. your quite clearly happy as a ‘small business’ like you’ve also stated, to let go of loyal customers rather then admit your mistakes when you make them. Not to mention the foul language I’ve heard from the chef speaking to my colleagues and your...
