Bad art. Usually some sort of charity woke nonsense. Lots of back patting and speeches and very little thought provoking material.
Run by a bunch of man hating misandrists: I ran the cafe for two years and worked every event later than all the gallery staff, yet they refuse to give me a job reference because 'I didn't work for them' even though they were perfectly happy giving me orders and messing with my coffee business all hours of the day.
When an old lady cracked her head on the gallery floor I walked her home and checked in on her to make sure she wasn't injured and wouldn't sue the gallery. And this is how I'm repaid... no job reference.

Amazingly, for a city as prominent as Brighton, it's never had a major purpose-built arts space. Venues like Fabrica and Lighthouse show good work, but Phoenix Arts is centrally situated, has a varied and excellent arts programme, and also a neat little cafe.
