I've been to Flamingo a number of times and never had an issue. This was my first time at this location and I was so exited as I was celebrating a new job.
The restaurant was beautiful and the decor was lovely. Unfortunately our waitress was quite rude and didn't seem to listen to us- we were served diet coke instead of coke zero and never received any water for the table. The service was quick but I have not eaten meat for 10 years and was served chicken rather than the vegan alternative I had requested. My partner bought this up with the waitress, who asked if I was sure I'd ordered the vegan option. Obviously given the duration of time I have not eaten meat, I am pretty sure I would not have asked for meat.
I am now home and despite only taking a small bite of the meat, I am very unwell as my body is not accustomed to it. Though my meal was comped from the bill, it would have been nice to have actually recieved a verbal apology from the waitress as she only apologised to my partner and even then i didnt actually hear it.
I have no problem with the restaurant, or the rest of the staff and what I did eat of my (eventually) vegan meal was very lovely, though my partner did say her meal was a overcooked and a bit rubbery. But this particular waitress needs to check her attitude. Sorry to the rest of the staff if any of my party came across rude or unpleasant- we were all just distressed by this situation. Read moreWe just had a three-course christmas dinner here this weekend, and it was amazing. The ambience, the view, the food, the crew- everything was top notch! I had opted for vegetarian options and specified that I had a nut allergy in advance, so they were very mindful about it throughout the night. I had a Salad, Roast Cauliflower Steak, and Pineapple Tarte Tatin. Now i usually don't trust it when they serve a vegetable that's pretending to be a steak, however, to my pleasant surprise- it was soooo good! Perfectly caramelized, golden-brown feast for the eyes - yes, but also crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside and so flavourful! The charring added a welcome smokiness to the dish, while the accompanying tahini sauce provided a creamy, nutty contrast. Every bite was a testament to the chef's skill and creativity.
We had booked the whole restaurant out and there were about 60 of us there and the staff was still able to serve us all efficiently.
Funny story- so on my name card, it said my name on one side (which was facing me) and "nuts allergy" on the other side (for the servers ofcourse). So everyone sitting across from me could only see "nuts allergy". So naturally... they did what full grown adults do. Called me nuts. I mean i am- but i don't usually advertise it!!
All in all, it was an amazing evening. We all had a really good time. And i'm not sure if the Cauliflower Steak is on their regular menu but if it is- i'm totally going...
Read moreVisited Flamingo on the August bank holiday weekend, for the first time and I love the concept of this restaurant, ordering via the QR code was really easy and enabled us to drip feed our orders through to the kitchen so that we could enjoy dishes from the tapas-style section of the menu, without everything arriving at once and going cold. Also the option to just order at the bar was easy for those more averse to tech.
The atmosphere was very relaxed, the chairs comfy, the service was the perfect combination of helpful and friendly and the complimentary sparkling water made me incredibly happy.
My only little personal grumble was with regards to the menu, why so much “American cheese”? (I use quotes because this is not cheese). For my group it ruled a few things off the menu immediately (a quote from our table “why use a melted Kraft slice of cheese when cheddar can be so cheap?”). We also made an error with ordering the nachos which we hadn’t noticed had cheese sauce on, personally I thought this ruined the dish and made it really sickly, which was a shame because the salsa and guacamole were the most delicious I’ve ever tasted. I suggest adding an option to remove cheese sauce or substitute with cheddar #JustSayNoToAmericanCheese #NotARealCampaign
