We had a very nice Saturday lunch at the Giggling Squid to celebrate my birthday, all treated by my son. The service and food we received was excellent, and if it wasn't for my two gripes, I would have given GS 5 stars.
However, as mentioned we do have a couple of gripes, firstly my dear wife does take her time when given a vast menu choice, so we thought we would do our homework beforehand. We made our selection after much deliberations, we decided to have the tapas selection. But, we were duly told, by our waitress that they don't offer the tapas menu on a Saturday.
My second gripe, although this didn't really affect me directly, as my son picked up the bill. Was the 8% service charge added to the bill.
When are establishments going to stop adding this service charge to their customer's bills, customers really don't like this added tax, and it does effect turnover. If I receive good service, I would always leave a tip, but to have this added directly to my bill without my consent, I find is unacceptable, hence we my wife and I won't be returning back to the Giggling Squid in the future, which is a shame as mentioned that the service and food was excellent. I believe the cost of our meal for 4 was around £140, with a charge of £11 service charge. Loss revenue for two birthdays, plus wedding anniversary meal would be around £450.
GS. I believe they do put a statement on the bottom of the bill, stating that the service charge is not compulsory, and you can ask for it to be removed if poor service is received. My son said he didn't want the embarrassment, of asking for it to be removed, after all this meal is meant to be a...
Read morein the last 20 years, it's the first time i have really wanted to leave a review. The food is not very very very bad, but not good. The starter is OK; a bit bland, but it's fresh, just no flavor. We ordered the salt and pepper squid and mushrooms, but genuinely did not taste any salt nor pepper, only the oil from it being fried. The salt is sprinkled and chilli is just put on for look. Buts still OK. When my main came, i was a bit shocked upon opening the lid. It was a very very small portion for the massaman chicken. The plate was big, but the curry only took up the small centre which was maybe 10cm,(the photo is my daughter's jungle curry, my one was even less).there are less than 4 slices chicken. the reason i say less than four piece is because two whole pieces and 2 half pieces, all of which were very thin. And the curry look like has been ready cooked And heated long time. With 6-7 potatoes And 5-6 chunks of carrots also onions. You know how it's looks like. The curry tastcan say OK. But it is a too sweet. When they asked me if I want to refill my drink, definitely I say no, because I don't want to spend any more on this restaurant. I go to lots of restaurants, some restaurant is higher prices than them, but basically of course they have some thing good can say. But this one. Costed 160 for four person just give me this, I will say it's very Poor...
Read moreVisited for lunch with friends and had a delicious meal. We had a variety of the lunch tapas and the tapas set meals, everything was great and freshly cooked. My favourites were the hawker style moo ping, prawns in ginger and the red and green currys. We were also told that the curry can be made hotter or milder depending on your preference, we just tried the standard and they were both really tasty. I'm lactose intolerant and the staff showed me the allergen menu (also available via a QR code on your phone, really handy to be able to narrow down by foods not containing different allergens) and when my food came out all the plates were clearly marked with a little allergen sticker. Highly recommended if you have allergies, the staff obviously take it really seriously and seem to cater to a variety of different dietary requirements. There are also vegan choices on the menu too. I had a virgin mojito, really nice and refreshing. Would love to come back to try some of the cocktails as they had a big selection of different drinks on the menu. We came with my 7 month old baby and they had high chairs available for use, she's too small for the food but there is a kids menu available too. Overall a great visit, would like to come back to try the...
