Really terrible, worst afternoon tea ever. This was my work xmas'do' we paid 12 pounds each.We were wedged into a tiny side room with no room and not enough chairs.Waitress took orders for tea and coffee, tea was supplied in pots with spare hot water, those who wanted coffee were given one cup and not asked if they wanted more. There was one cake stand between two, each one had sandwiches of one slice.of basic bread each containing Turkey and cranberry, no choice at all when questioned we were told that was what you got on the deal.i dont like cranberry sauce and,as it turned out lots of people didnt eat them, I was grudgingly given a Turkey sandwich, the vegetarian Iwas finally given a cheese sandwich, no salad or even pickle, and again no choice. This was followed by tiny, hard scones, dry as a bone and a tiny dish of cream between two people, approximately a teaspoonful to cover four scones. There was also one very dry mince pie each and a small slice of Christmas cake, when icing removed it revealed burnt cake, it was also very dry.Disgusting not even a Christmas cracker there was music in main tea room but not where we were. They ought to be ashamed to charge 11.95 per head for this awful food and service, never again.I presume the people writing the other reviews either had better food or are...

Came across this place by chance as we had been let down with the poor service at another nearby establishment, and within 5 minutes we knew this would be our new 'go to' place for brunch! With any good customer service, you need to have a good grasp of the basics first and foremost, and it was evident from the first few minutes that they had this covered in the way they immediately acknowleged us and made us feel welcome. The owner/manager though went above and beyond this with his very personable touch, humour, and the way he kept us, and other customers constantly updated with their place on the waiting list to get served, and then the order itself. I also have to acknowledge that the rest of the waiting staff also provided a friendly and efficient service. The food was also good enough to make us visit each of the 3 days we were at the festival, and we especially enjoyed the cream teas! Jacket potatoes were perfectly cooked, and the roast was tasty and a good portion. All in all, we had a very positive experience, and we will certainly be going back again next year......especially as I have a date with an extremely tasty looking Lemon...

What can i say, extremely happy to have bumped into this gem of a place after the poor service received at another local place where we have been going to have breakfast during the festival week over the past 3 years. From the moment we've got there and sat at the table, we have been made feel very welcome, the service has been top notch, the food has been great and the scones are to die for. I know we won't be regulars of visiting this place every week as we are not locals, but we have been treated as if we were regulars from the first moment, extremely welcoming hosts and this will 100% be our breakfast and coffee place whenever we are in the island, which unfortunately is only during the festival week. One of the days we visited, the place was very busy, but we have been kept constantly updated on how many tables we had ahead of us waiting to order and when it would be our turn, which i think it is a fantastic touch and helps you not mind the wait, although even in this busy day, the wait was not long at all. (10 - 15 mins). Personally, I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone that visits Newport. You...

Myself and my sister often pop in to this lovely tearoom when we are in Newport. We visited recently and were greeted by a very cheerful and friendly Robin ( the owner ) who asked if we would like to be seated in the Ghost Room or the Christmas Room. Even though it's mid October we both jumped at the chance to eat in the Christmas Room which had decorated tree, Father Christmas and decs with fairy lights and Christmas tunes playing. I'm usually a grinch but loved this, it even put me in the Christmas spirit for once. Our food was tasty and came to our table in good time and we couldn't resist dessert. The Pavlova and Lemon Meringue were divine. The building has a lot of history and it's interesting to learn where it got it's name from. Thanks Robin for the laughs you gave us on our visit and rest assured we will visit again soon.

Back to the God Providence Tearooms for breakfast with the traditional option taken though a comprehensive menu is available all reasonably priced. Love my tea with no bags ( don’t forget to use the strainer) here. Staff / Management always friendly & happy to please should you require a variation of a menu item. Look past the exterior as it’s an old building (with history) and we’d all have a few lines / cracks if we were that age! You won’t be disappointed!

Wonderful old fashioned tea room with friendly waitresses. Best cup of tea we have had all week, with a hand knitted teacosy on the pot. Delicious cheese scone, fresh from the oven. The lemon meringue pie looked scrumptious. The lunch menu looked very appetising but we were only in Newport for the morning so didn't try it. A definite place to return to.
