After reading the menu we were excited to come to this restaurant as it had so much choice and a bit of everything for everyone in our party.
If I could give this 0 stars I would, we sat down in what was a very awkward atmosphere. The place was completely empty when we arrived and were coldly greeted and sat at our table, at first we put this down to a quirk and were given drinks menus.
The boys asked for a lager beer, however were presented with limited options - they chose 2 different ones and were served them. We ordered a bottle of Rioja red wine which was £27 and were horrified to to be served Campo Viejo which we both regularly drink at home and retails for around £8 per bottle. We were absolutely furious at this point but as it was uncorked we decided to just drink it and put it down to being a small restaurant in Grasmere.
We all ordered starters which were mediocre and I am almost positive my mussels came out of a pre-prepared packet you get in the shops and some of them were rank to the point I decided to stop eating them to avoid any food poisoning.
Whilst we were waiting for our mains one of the chefs actually went to a chest freezer in the corner of the restaurant hidden by wooden dividers to retrieve vegetables from again, I don’t expect every piece of my meal to be freshly prepared however this was just starting to take the mick.
The mains were okay, most of it was from frozen and prepackaged food which was incredibly disappointing considering the cost of the meal which totalled to £150.
Would not recommend as they are clearly taking advantage of guests on holiday by buying in bulk frozen food and cheap wine off the shelves to sell at over triple the price and the atmosphere, service and staff were all very weird - if I could give 0...
Read moreMe and my partner visit grasmere every year and we always visit restaurants in the nearby area. No where has left such an impression on us, though. The interior (and exterior) is very quirky and homely - which is the vibe I absolutely love when dining; as it creates a comforting atmosphere. The waitress, Linda, kept making us laugh and was overall extremely friendly and attentive. I had the cheesy pasta special, and my partner had the stir fried king prawns with sweet chilli, which we both loved! My partner kept commenting on how “perfectly cooked” the prawns were and “fresh” they tasted. He comes from a culture where food is very important so it’s lovely to have seen him enjoy every last bite of his meal! Massive thanks to Clarke, the chef, for two lovely meals!! We came here pretty late but did not feel rushed at all. Massive thank you again to Linda and Clarke! We will absolutely be back on our next yearly visit and we are looking forward to...
Read moreThe people seemed genuinely lovely, but the food on the other hand well, and i’m sorry for this bad review, but we genuinely left angry and sad at ourselves for paying at all. YOU ARE REALLY NOT A CHEF! £35 for 2 plates of frozen ravioli drowning in a store brought sauce, with raw pieces of floating peppers and carrots? Along with frozen oven chips and budget garlic bread. Everything clearly pre made and store brought. It was enough to make any real cook cry.
We were so excited by the look of the menu and the place has so much potential, but I have never felt more scammed after eating a meal.
I really hope you can turn this around and have some culinary lessons, or you really need to take a look at your food and appreciate how awful it is. There are plenty of better places in Grasmere to eat. I just wish we told you this in person, but didn’t want to hurt any feelings, but future customers need to...
