Harbour16 — Restaurant in England

I booked H16 for a works meal after being let down by another local restaurant and they were fab from the start, the young man I spoke to on the phone the day I made my booking advised he wasn’t sure they could accommodate such a large booking but would have someone call me back and just a couple of hours later Liv called me back and confirmed it was all booked in! We preordered as much as possible but even the few who hadn’t preordered were able to order on the evening with no fuss! The communication leading up to and throughout was excellent and they staff were very attentive checking back regularly and taking drinks orders! The cocktails & wine were divine! Booked for a birthday meal No mention of it what so ever and a very come here, sit down, back in 5 vibe. Paid £65 for a 10oz steak (good quality but about 2oz of gristle) 2 completely unseasoned chicken skewers, totalling 6 cubes of chicken, 6 very small seemingly frozen prawns, one very small pitta bread and two average chunks of halloumi. Unsure what business rates are in Torquay, but I'm from Bristol which is expensive, and this has became I think one of the most expensive meals for what I received I have ever had. That along with £7 pint prices and £10 small white wine spritzers and you have a concoction of absolute robbery. No real service. No atmosphere as everybody clearly felt robbed. I came to Harbour 16 with a client on Tuesday evening for a meal on the harbour. We had a lovely spot in the sun outside. The meal was very good the waiting staff hit the right spot of being always available but not overly attentive.

What really caused me to write a review was the ethics of the waiting staff. I'd had a problem paying with my card, so paid cash - £105, two £50 notes and a £5. As I was leaving I was told I'd paid two much, as what I thought had been two £50 notes was in fact 3. I wouldn't have realised if they'd kept the money, but they didn't, I was really taken aback and delighted by their integrity. I will be coming back and we'll hold a staff party at Harbour 16 at some point in the future, all because of this positive incident.
