Lovely location overlooking Whitby harbour. Choice of seating on ground or upper floor. Warm, bright, clean , modern. We had 2 coffees and Rocky road biscuits. Slightly in the pricey side, the Rocky road was tasty but very sweet. The decaf coffee was very creamy and smooth but lacked depth. Where it fell down was the normal coffee which smelt and tasted of milk on the turn. The server was friendly, polite and offered to make a new one free but did point out it was the flavour notes of the coffee. He was right, the next tasted just the same. Pity, as it was not pleasant at all and if I were running this place I would quickly change coffee brands. Hence the overall 3/5 score .

This coffee shop was so good, we visited it twice in one day and I would strongly recommend for a drinks stop if you are visiting Whitby. The coffee shop is in a great central location overlooking the harbour and bridge. It also does a small range of food. We had a friendly welcome and enjoyed some very nice coffee, drinks and a couple of fresh jam scones. This place has a lovely feel, with tasteful seaside contemporary dƩcor, comfy chairs, and even really nice crockery; no trashy mugs here. The upstairs seating is roomy with some great views. Its a great place to chill and is good value.

Visited ā€˜Hopes and Beans’ today and was disappointed by the coffee. Having read reviews, I had hoped the quality of the coffee would be good but it just tasted like hot milk - maybe the regular latte only has one shot of espresso? Also, the food on the counter needs a cover as with the door open, there were flies eating the sweet treats. It’s a shame as the cafe itself is lovely - very modern with views across the harbour if you can get a window seat.

Good location with a nice niew. Nice coffee and it arrived quickly after ordering at the counter. No menus were on offer on the tables or at the counter so we had to guess what was available. Cakes/ baked goods were okay but not much selection. We walked in for the first time and we were told there were no seats available. No apology or suggestion of a wait time was given so our group of four people and a dog had to turn around and walk back out unfortunately. Service seemed quite unfriendly. We passed by again and spotted an empty table in the window so we decided to give the place another chance. We sat down on a table with four seats and were told by a staff member to move to a table away from the window with no explanation, which we did, then another group sat at that table. The table we were moved to was a large table for six. We moved feeling confused and disappointed about losing the nice view. While sitting we observed several other customers walking in and walking back out after receiving similar service that we recieved. We did ask why we had been moved tables and the staff member said that the table we were on was supposed to be a table for three and four people could not sit there. When we pointed out that there were four seats there and there had been four people sitting there prior to us he replied that he would move one seat away. Again with no apology. We left feeling awkward and like our custom was not wanted...

Right, I've given four stars based on other reviews, however it's not totally accurate as we never got to sample and enjoy anything here. Decor looked nice and inviting, but upon entering, despite some available seating downstairs and customers already inside, we noticed the stairs to seating on the first floor had been roped off. We had spent the day around the Abbey and fossil hunting with our 12 year old. It was 3.45pm, absolutely tons of people still around and we just wanted a quick drink, sit down (more importantly) and light bite to eat/cake. Unfortunately the staff quickly made us aware that they were serving takeaway only at that time. Such a shame and were surprised that many other places closed early also, despite it being the...
