we went here a few days because we were craving indian food since we've been eating out for a few days and as your typical indian family, we needed a taste of home. the first plan was pizza but since we saw this restaurant we ditched that plan. first of all, they were short staffed and we waited without anyone welcoming us for 20-30 mins. after a person came, he told us that it would take a while because they were full of customers and people that previously booked were their first priority. we agreed and waited. 30 mins went by. 1 hr went by. after a lot of asking for a table, we were invited inside with a menu. we already knew what to buy because of the menus in the waiting 'lounge' but it still took another 20 mins for the guy to come take our order. we ordered like garlic naan, lamb biryani, chicken samosa etc. he asked if we wanted chicken samosa as our starter or part of main and we said starter since we believed we could get it earlier since we were all so hungry and hadn't had a proper meal all day because of exploring. keep in mind, we came at 7 and it's around 9pm now. another 30 mins go by. we get the samosa and it's actually so terrible. it was hot and that's about it. they were two small samosas for £5 which tasted so strong of coriander and mint. also said it was spicy on the menu. where tf was the spice? are you mf kidding?? 10 mins go by and we ask the guy about our order. this dude tells us that in order to tell the chef to start cooking the meal, he need to collect the empty starter plates. we were shook. so disappointed and mad and even more hungry. i went up to him and lowkey sternly said to cancel the order. he said okay but only if the cook hasn't cooked it already. well obviously they hadn't cooked it so we paid for the samosas and left. defo our worst restaurant experience ever. literally traumatising and our family will never go into a Maharaja again. also felt like they didn't take us seriously because we were a brown family like as if they needed to be extra sweet to their Caucasian customers. 1 star for the great view of the sea by our seat but it was so windy and cold that we were shivering. yup, never again. ah btw, we got Domino's pizza afterwards which was literally so delicious, it was so satisfying. i stan...
Read moreI can't comment on the food as we didn't actually get any served on the day, so this is just about our experience. Last night in Newquay, so decided to try the Maharajah, as had tried the other Indian restaurants on previous nights. Asked for a table for two and noticed that there were other people in the waiting area, but was told that they were waiting for tables of three or more. We got seated at a table for two. Ordered drinks, which came promptly, but when it came to ordering just our starters; one Poppadom and a portion of Spicy wings, we waited for 45mins. In that time other diners had been seated and received their Poppadoms within 5mins. Felt we were either being ignored or forgotten about. Decided enough was enough so got up to walk out. Got to the bar and told the them we were leaving and would just be paying for our drinks. Shock on their faces. They brought over our drinks; a double rum, half a lager and a bottle of still water. Lager not touched, water bottle hardly drunk and rum just a sip. Presented a bill for £19. Looked at it and told them that we never had the Popoddam, or spicy wings, so would only be paying half of it. Asked to speak to the manger and the guy I was talking to claimed he was. Looked him up and down and wasn't convinced. I threatened to walk out at that stage to which the 'manager' said "I'll call the police as I have a direct line to them". I said "go on then" The wife was getting abit panicky by now. I said to the 'manager' "ok then, give me a discount" he refused saying he couldn't. I said "you're the manager and could use your discretion". Eventually he relented and agreed nock off off 25%. By this time I'd noticed the waiting diners all looking at us so decided to pay less the 25% discount and went to another restaurant were we had no problems getting served within 10minutes. If we're ever in Newquay we may try it again but remind them of my...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Maharajah, and it was an unforgettable culinary journey. From the moment I walked in, the rich aromas of spices and herbs transported me straight to the heart of India.
Ambiance: The restaurant's ambiance is warm and inviting, with traditional Indian décor that creates a cozy and exotic atmosphere.
Service: The staff was exceptionally attentive and knowledgeable. They were more than happy to explain the menu and offer recommendations based on our preferences. The service was prompt, and we never felt rushed.
Appetizers: We started with the Mixed Platter, which included samosas, pakoras, and chicken tikka. Each item was perfectly spiced and cooked to perfection. The samosas were crispy with a flavorful filling, the pakoras were light and crunchy, and the chicken tikka was tender and juicy with a smoky char from the tandoor.
Main Course: For the main course, we ordered the Butter Chicken, Lamb Rogan Josh, and Vegetable Biryani. The Butter Chicken was divine, with tender pieces of chicken simmered in a creamy tomato-based sauce that had just the right balance of sweetness and spice. The Lamb Rogan Josh was equally impressive, with succulent lamb cooked in a rich, aromatic gravy. The Vegetable Biryani was a delightful medley of fragrant basmati rice and fresh vegetables, perfectly seasoned and garnished with fried onions and raisins.
Bread: The garlic naan we ordered was the perfect accompaniment to our meal. They were freshly baked, soft, and had the perfect amount of char from the tandoor.
Overall: Maharajah offers an exceptional dining experience with authentic flavors, impeccable service, and a warm ambiance. Whether you are a fan of Indian food or a first-timer, this restaurant is sure to leave a lasting impression. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to enjoy a remarkable...
