Lunchtime, Tuesday. £30 for 4 sandwiches and 4 drinks. Price would have been acceptable had we not witnessed the sandwiches wrapped in plastic clingfilm taken from a fridge. The cheese and onion toasty was not cooked through and the cheese in the centre still grated and not warm. The bread was pale and not cooked. The paninis came with coleslaw in a plastic tub with a lid. Felt like very little care or attention in the food. The female staff members looked like they didn't want to be there. Saying that we didn't complain at the time, as I didn't feel like the rushed manager had time it's possible they could have rectified the toasted sandwich.

A lovely cosy little coffee shop just a short walk from the harbour. The teas and the coffees were all piping hot, drinks were lovely tasted and served with a smile. Each drink came with a Biscoff biscuit. The cost was £10.30 for four drinks. We sat inside and found a table and chairs easily. There is an accessible toilet at the rear of the cafe which was clean. Dogs are welcome inside. We enjoyed our comfort stop and we would visit again.

UPDATED I like to support independent businesses and I'd like to be able to give Koko 5 stars. But there's still some work to do here. The first couple of visits were fine, but the food could be better. Today we called in for lunch and had a lovely view of the harbour. The food was still only ok. Service was quick and efficient. Dog friendly throughout. Disabled access is good.

I genuinely don’t even know where to start with this place — I’ve had some bad coffee shop experiences before, but this one takes the cake.

The atmosphere was already off when I walked in, but what really shocked me was the attitude of one of the young staff members working the coffee machine. Her behavior wasn’t just unprofessional — it was downright disgusting.

While I was waiting for my order, I watched her take a drink over to a customer who very clearly had a visible disability — it looked like she may have had a speech impairment, and there was noticeable scarring along her hairline. Instead of just doing her job with some basic decency, the barista came back behind the bar and, loud enough for everyone including customers to hear, said (and I quote): ā€œI put the drink down and she was just staring at me. Like just take the drink or I’ll take it away!ā€

As if that wasn’t bad enough, she then mocked the customer’s appearance, saying something along the lines of, ā€œIt looks like someone’s taken a razor to the middle of her head.ā€ It was absolutely vile. You could tell people around her were uncomfortable, but she just carried on chatting and laughing with her colleague like it was no big deal.

As for my order, I asked for a caramel flat white and a slice of tiffin. It came to Ā£6.20 — not cheap — but I wouldn’t have minded if the drink had actually been made properly. The coffee had zero caramel syrup in it and the espresso shot tasted completely burnt, like it had been over-extracted or left to sit too long before being used. It was genuinely undrinkable — I ended up throwing it in the bin after a couple of sips.

And just to be clear, I work in a coffee shop myself. I know it can get stressful behind the bar and that customers can sometimes test your patience — we’ve all been there. But there’s a huge difference between having a rough day and openly mocking someone, especially someone vulnerable, in front of a queue full of people. It’s completely unacceptable and shows a serious lack of training, professionalism, and basic human decency.

This experience has really stuck with me — not just because of the bad coffee, but because I can’t stop thinking about how that customer must have felt. That kind of behaviour is beyond wrong, and unless something changes here fast, I’ll be warning everyone I know to steer well clear...

As a regular at KoKo and someone who was directly involved in the recent incident that’s been mentioned in a few negative reviews, I feel it’s important to set the record straight.

KoKo—and its staff—are consistently welcoming, inclusive, and incredibly dog-friendly. I’ve never once felt unwelcome, and I’ve always seen other customers and their dogs treated with warmth and respect.

The incident in question was not about the dog, its breed, or dogs in general. The issue arose because a customer felt uncomfortable around a large dog, and unfortunately, the dog’s owner responded in a way that was aggressive and verbally abusive, using inappropriate language towards both the concerned customer and the staff when asked to leave.

This was not a reflection of KoKo’s values, but rather of one individual’s intolerance and poor behaviour. The staff handled a difficult situation as professionally and calmly as possible.

I’ll absolutely continue to visit and recommend KoKo to anyone looking for a relaxed, friendly place to enjoy great coffee, cake, and a welcoming atmosphere—for both people...

A Masterclass in Disappointment – Koko Coffee, Bridlington

I visited Koko Coffee in Bridlington, hoping for a relaxing break. What I got instead was an unforgettable experience… for all the wrong reasons.

The cleanliness (or lack thereof) was the first red flag. Sticky tables, dusty corners, and what looked suspiciously like last week’s lunch still clinging to the floor. Not exactly the cosy cafĆ© vibe I had in mind.

Then came the food. I’m not sure how they did it, but they managed to make a simple order taste like a science experiment gone wrong. It was genuinely awful—dry, flavourless, and barely warm. My taste buds are still in recovery.

Now, credit where it’s due: the staff were genuinely friendly and doing their best. They were the only bright spot in an otherwise bleak experience. I felt for them—like cheerful sailors stuck on a sinking ship.

In short: if you enjoy terrible food in a dirty setting (but served with a smile), this might be your spot. As for me, I’ll be getting my caffeine fix elsewhere...
