I genuinely donāt even know where to start with this place ā Iāve had some bad coffee shop experiences before, but this one takes the cake.
The atmosphere was already off when I walked in, but what really shocked me was the attitude of one of the young staff members working the coffee machine. Her behavior wasnāt just unprofessional ā it was downright disgusting.
While I was waiting for my order, I watched her take a drink over to a customer who very clearly had a visible disability ā it looked like she may have had a speech impairment, and there was noticeable scarring along her hairline. Instead of just doing her job with some basic decency, the barista came back behind the bar and, loud enough for everyone including customers to hear, said (and I quote): āI put the drink down and she was just staring at me. Like just take the drink or Iāll take it away!ā
As if that wasnāt bad enough, she then mocked the customerās appearance, saying something along the lines of, āIt looks like someoneās taken a razor to the middle of her head.ā It was absolutely vile. You could tell people around her were uncomfortable, but she just carried on chatting and laughing with her colleague like it was no big deal.
As for my order, I asked for a caramel flat white and a slice of tiffin. It came to Ā£6.20 ā not cheap ā but I wouldnāt have minded if the drink had actually been made properly. The coffee had zero caramel syrup in it and the espresso shot tasted completely burnt, like it had been over-extracted or left to sit too long before being used. It was genuinely undrinkable ā I ended up throwing it in the bin after a couple of sips.
And just to be clear, I work in a coffee shop myself. I know it can get stressful behind the bar and that customers can sometimes test your patience ā weāve all been there. But thereās a huge difference between having a rough day and openly mocking someone, especially someone vulnerable, in front of a queue full of people. Itās completely unacceptable and shows a serious lack of training, professionalism, and basic human decency.
This experience has really stuck with me ā not just because of the bad coffee, but because I canāt stop thinking about how that customer must have felt. That kind of behaviour is beyond wrong, and unless something changes here fast, Iāll be warning everyone I know to steer well clear...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs a regular at KoKo and someone who was directly involved in the recent incident thatās been mentioned in a few negative reviews, I feel itās important to set the record straight.
KoKoāand its staffāare consistently welcoming, inclusive, and incredibly dog-friendly. Iāve never once felt unwelcome, and Iāve always seen other customers and their dogs treated with warmth and respect.
The incident in question was not about the dog, its breed, or dogs in general. The issue arose because a customer felt uncomfortable around a large dog, and unfortunately, the dogās owner responded in a way that was aggressive and verbally abusive, using inappropriate language towards both the concerned customer and the staff when asked to leave.
This was not a reflection of KoKoās values, but rather of one individualās intolerance and poor behaviour. The staff handled a difficult situation as professionally and calmly as possible.
Iāll absolutely continue to visit and recommend KoKo to anyone looking for a relaxed, friendly place to enjoy great coffee, cake, and a welcoming atmosphereāfor both people...

I visited Koko Coffee in Bridlington, hoping for a relaxing break. What I got instead was an unforgettable experience⦠for all the wrong reasons.
The cleanliness (or lack thereof) was the first red flag. Sticky tables, dusty corners, and what looked suspiciously like last weekās lunch still clinging to the floor. Not exactly the cosy cafĆ© vibe I had in mind.
Then came the food. Iām not sure how they did it, but they managed to make a simple order taste like a science experiment gone wrong. It was genuinely awfulādry, flavourless, and barely warm. My taste buds are still in recovery.
Now, credit where itās due: the staff were genuinely friendly and doing their best. They were the only bright spot in an otherwise bleak experience. I felt for themālike cheerful sailors stuck on a sinking ship.
In short: if you enjoy terrible food in a dirty setting (but served with a smile), this might be your spot. As for me, Iāll be getting my caffeine fix elsewhere...
