I truly wish I could give Malton Relish no stars but it's not an option. They catered for my wedding picnic in July and the food was rancid and mouldy. I have been told that a member of staff had accidentally turned off the fridge the picnics were stored in but it was appalling that the food had been made 2 days before the picnic considering we were paying ÂŁ25 per head and no one checked it before delivering it to us.
I would never have thought to write a review for a simple mistake however Sophie Legard the owner has not given a single guest a refund a month later (as promised via email to me) and is now not returning my calls. Please do not consider giving this women a single penny of your money because you don't know how long the food has been sat in a fridge before you eat it and she certainly won't give you your money back!!
I have also found out that she has lied to me via email and in a hand written letter about how this mistake occurred and told me that she had contacted the environmental health department to work with them. They have confirmed with me that she hadn't contacted them at all!
The single worst customer service experience of my life so far - lying to me and getting her staff to lie to me to avoid...
Read moreI've purchased a frozen Loose Birds chicken from Malton Relish (they sell them fresh and frozen). When I defrosted it (overnight in the fridge) it smelled rancid and went straight in the bin.
My feedback to them was that they might consider removing the giblets before freezing as this seemed to be the main source of the smell. However after freezing and defrosting many other Loose Birds chickens (purchased from M&K Butchers in York) without issue, I can only conclude that my Malton Relish chicken had in fact been frozen aftet its expiry date.
I can also recall another visit where a fresh chicken was still available for sale after it had past its expiry date.
I've heard other stories from people reporting getting home and finding they've purchased expired products or that their pies were full of mould under the lid. While this is just hear say, a pattern does seem to be emerging. If you do find yourself in Malton Relish I'd advise buyer beware, as you may end up with more than you...
Read moreNice little place, with very cheery & helpful staff. We only came in to see if you had any plain scones (which you did, and we bought!) I did spot some very tasty looking Battenberg cake so ordered a hefty slice, along with some Red Velvet & Coffee & Walnut. Apologies to the Baker, but that Battenberg wasnât pleasant at all. It had a floral flavour and buttercream? I was really looking forward to our cakes, but alas they werenât good. Iâm all in favour of trying new recipes etc, but Im afraid youâd be better off sticking to the traditional. It may seem petty, but we spent ÂŁ25.00 on a few slices of cake and didnât enjoy any of them. Had we eaten in, I would have mentioned it at the time, but we didnât eat them until much later that evening. Everything else looked good, the place was clean and staff were great. I can only comment on my experience, and unfortunately...
