I can't praise this little deli enough. The 2 lads who were taking orders and serving where great. Very friendly and efficient. The lady in the kitchen cooking everything was also friendly and helpful as we needed the loo and dhe kindly let us use the staff toilet. I had eggs benedict with mushrooms ÂŁ12.70 from the breakfast specials menu and was really tasty. My partner had a smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich on seeded bread ÂŁ8 and said that it was one of the best he's had. The shop itself sells all sorts of chutney's, relishes, quiche, pie's, colslaw, various sausage rolls, wine, beers and pre-made meals, cheeses, crisps and lots more. There's a few tables inside and also a few tables outside under a gazebo. I understand that there's an antique shop upstairs but I didn't visit so cannot comment.

I recently visited this charming little cafĂ© known for its sandwiches and refreshments, and it was a delightful experience. We tried the pork pie, which was savory & just the perfect size for my lil one. The roasted beef sandwich was particularly impressive; the horseradish added a fantastic zing, and the brown bread complemented it perfectly. Even the side salad was fresh and enjoyable. Despite the cafĂ© being quite busy, the staff remained surprisingly hospitable, handling the pressure with grace. It’s always nice to see a place bustling with regulars, especially on market day. Overall, I had a wonderful time and will definitely be returning for more of their delicious offerings. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping by!

I truly wish I could give Malton Relish no stars but it's not an option. They catered for my wedding picnic in July and the food was rancid and mouldy. I have been told that a member of staff had accidentally turned off the fridge the picnics were stored in but it was appalling that the food had been made 2 days before the picnic considering we were paying ÂŁ25 per head and no one checked it before delivering it to us.

I would never have thought to write a review for a simple mistake however Sophie Legard the owner has not given a single guest a refund a month later (as promised via email to me) and is now not returning my calls. Please do not consider giving this women a single penny of your money because you don't know how long the food has been sat in a fridge before you eat it and she certainly won't give you your money back!!

I have also found out that she has lied to me via email and in a hand written letter about how this mistake occurred and told me that she had contacted the environmental health department to work with them. They have confirmed with me that she hadn't contacted them at all!

The single worst customer service experience of my life so far - lying to me and getting her staff to lie to me to avoid...

I've purchased a frozen Loose Birds chicken from Malton Relish (they sell them fresh and frozen). When I defrosted it (overnight in the fridge) it smelled rancid and went straight in the bin.

My feedback to them was that they might consider removing the giblets before freezing as this seemed to be the main source of the smell. However after freezing and defrosting many other Loose Birds chickens (purchased from M&K Butchers in York) without issue, I can only conclude that my Malton Relish chicken had in fact been frozen aftet its expiry date.

I can also recall another visit where a fresh chicken was still available for sale after it had past its expiry date.

I've heard other stories from people reporting getting home and finding they've purchased expired products or that their pies were full of mould under the lid. While this is just hear say, a pattern does seem to be emerging. If you do find yourself in Malton Relish I'd advise buyer beware, as you may end up with more than you...

Nice little place, with very cheery & helpful staff. We only came in to see if you had any plain scones (which you did, and we bought!) I did spot some very tasty looking Battenberg cake so ordered a hefty slice, along with some Red Velvet & Coffee & Walnut. Apologies to the Baker, but that Battenberg wasn’t pleasant at all. It had a floral flavour and buttercream? I was really looking forward to our cakes, but alas they weren’t good. I’m all in favour of trying new recipes etc, but Im afraid you’d be better off sticking to the traditional. It may seem petty, but we spent £25.00 on a few slices of cake and didn’t enjoy any of them. Had we eaten in, I would have mentioned it at the time, but we didn’t eat them until much later that evening. Everything else looked good, the place was clean and staff were great. I can only comment on my experience, and unfortunately...
