We came here for a meal at the new Darley Abbey location of Lorentes.
The restaurant was a lovely atmosphere, with the decor being nice and the staff were really friendly. The drinks were also lovely, with the half jug of red sangria being generous (maybe around 1-1/2 glasses per jug).
However, one of the main issues we had was the portion sizes, and the cost reflecting them. We ordered the chicken skewers, and for £8.50 you only got 1 each, and were tiny (around 2 mouthfuls), which we felt was not ok. Especially as I had gone to the Friar gate branch a few years ago and you got more than double that portion for the same price. Not sure if it’s due to inflation, however I think that needs to be looked at!
We also felt like much of the food was rather “meh”, in the padron peppers were just peppers fried with salt on the top, which again for the price we felt wasn’t great. Out of the everything we tried, the mushrooms were the most flavourful, but again a small portion.
I don’t think we will be in any rush to return any time soon, purely due to the costs and lack of...
Read moreA very intimate, yet bustling tapas and cocktail bar. Good mix of tables, some with chairs, some higher with stools as well as a small bar. The decor is also very well done so as to appear cosy and interesting. The staff were very friendly and attentive despite how busy it was in there.
We tried a lot of dishes and really struggled to decide what we liked best as they were all very good. They also came out of the kitchen without too much wait, yet spaced out enough we could enjoy eating without worrying things were getting cold.I didn't have a cocktail, so can't comment on the selection available.
All in all a very enjoyable evening and definitely recommended. I would suggest booking though as this was very popular, even midweek. We ended up sitting at the bar as no tables were free, but that added to the charm and enjoyment...
Read moreI’ve been coming here for many years, but after a 2 year break I decided to come back alone. Even though I’m a young person covered in dirt, tattoos and piercings, absolutely no service was spared of me. The staff were not only attentive but incredibly friendly and personable. I had earphones in for my meal and they still continued to provide me exactly the service I would’ve received without them. The food & drink was served promptly and was exactly as described. There is no salt and pepper on the table as the food simply does not need it! Everything was perfectly seasoned and left me waiting to book another table. If you’re new to derby or simply haven’t tried Spanish food before (coming from a Spaniard) I would definitely try this restaurant out, it’s not one to miss at all (even if it is a...
