‘The Spice Lounge’ was highly recommended to me recently, so I booked in for a meal with some old school friends and our Form Tutor. Wow!!! What an experience. I never knew what to expect and didn’t want to go with any expectations either. Located in Sadler gate, Derby. It’s really easy to find and surrounded by ample parking. Most of which is Free after 8pm 🅿️. You get a friendly welcome upon arrival, not only do you hear the buzz but feel it too!!! A completely different vibe to your normal Indian cuisines, the atmosphere and ambiance are absolutely perfect. The Decor is warm and welcoming too. If your looking for a great night out, with a vibe, delicious food, fantastic customer service then this is the place for you. The staff are friendly, polite and efficient. It was great to see the Boss, Kerron, leading by example which is very rare. All staff knew their roles, no one was standing about making customers feel awkward. The staff morale was clear and they worked as a team. Great to witness this. Our drinks order was taken and popadoms were provided whilst we waited for the last of friends to arrive. The staff patiently waited for the last few to arrive and then took an order as a whole, which meant we all ate together. The food was brought out at the same time for everyone and let me tell you… It was absolutely amazing!!! From the Curries, to the rice to the naans, the flavours, portions sizes and warmth were all cooked to perfection. We all as a collective group of friends we’re very impressed with Kerron and the team, the food, the welcome and the service. On top of that the prices are very reasonable too. Due to some of our guests arriving late, we were politely asked to move to another table after we had all finished. The table was booked for other guests. This was our error as a group. Kerron went the extra mile again, and provided a complimentary drink for the inconvenience caused. I can’t recommend The Spice Lounge enough. I appreciate there are many competitors in the Derby area, but I’d definitely encourage you to experience ‘The Spice Lounge’, which will set the standard and benchmark for you. Thank you again to Kerron and the team for a great experience and a...
Read moreSpice lounge has always been my favourite restaurant. It has always had the best indian food i have ever tasted and exemplary service. We have continued to return to Spice Lounge even though we moved over an hour away. Yesterday when we went i was disappointed to say the least. The starter and initial service was as good as ever, however, when our mains arrived I noticed that my curry didnt taste quite right. The more i ate the more i realised that my chicken balti tasted distinctly of cheese. I thought perhaps it was me until i bullied my friend into trying it and he confirmed that it did in fact taste like a pack of stale quavers. However i had a significant amount of other food so i ate my naan bread and onion bhajis instead. Towards the end of the meal i thought i should inform the staff about my meal as an ingredient may have gone off or they may have mixed up some of the meals. I politely informed one of the waiters who took it away. Another member of staff returned and informed me that "If you had told me when i came over and asked how your meals were, i would have got you something else but its too late now. The best i can do is offer an apology as there is nothing else i can do" I was rather taken by surprise by his attitude, especially when i hadnt asked for a replacement or deduction. He went on to ask "what is exactly wrong with it?" I informed him that "it tastes like cheese" to which he responded "what do you mean it tastes like cheese?" I further explained the issue which i believed to be self explanatory. He finished our converstation by once again there was nothing he could do about it now.
In conclusion, i found the attitude of this one member of staff unprofessional and inapropriate. I left feeling angry and upset, not about the food but about the way I was treated. Had I been less surprised by the way he handled the situation, I would have complained further at the...
Read moreAttending an event at the Sub Rooms we needed some food before hand. .with VERY little choice we came across this place. It was awful from the time we sat down. A lovely young man who couldn't speak English was really very busy tidying and delivering drinks. The man who appeared to be in charge just constantly spoke aggressively to him in a, what I assume, to be both their native language. At one point he grabbed him hard by the arm. I was very uncomfortable.
I asked if we could order and the man in charge, rolled his eyes and told me "soon". He went off to answer the phone, over and over and over.
We finally ordered 30 minutes after sitting down. 🤦
We waited another 45 minutes for our food. (In fancy restaurants I get that, but not here!)
The food was ok. Absolutely no more than that. And the rice was awful. I didn't eat it. Mushroom fried rice. No seasoning.... and really greasy.
Other tables were waiting longer than us, the table next to us, who ordered the same time as us, still didn't have their food after we'd eaten ours. An hour and 15 minutes after ordering. They left.
As did 2 other tables who had been waiting over an hour each.
We assumed they were just concentrating on takeaways......mm but even that was started to get backed up and people were returning because items were missing once they did get their orders.
There was such an unrest. Customers even become angry and threatening. One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had.
Oh. And the table cloth wasn't really clean and cutlery didn't match. And my meal (although tastes ok)...
