The Distillery — Restaurant in England

My friend booked a table on Saturday through our recommendation. we had a table upstairs by the patio doors. We thought the upstairs was for food only and realised that there were lots of people just coming in for a drink. I was disappointed in this as time went on 4 males were stood by our table while we were eating and having to look at there rears was not appropriate. We understand that you were busy but there was only one waitress on and she was not very attentive. My husband and I had steak and we got each others. We didn't complain but mentioned it to the waitress when she came to collect our plates. She came back and apologised as it was the Chef mix up. Pure shame as there were only 3 tables that ordered food while we were there. We can only suggest that you either treat upstairs as food only or bar only not both on a busy night. The staff were friendly and the menu offers some tempting choices. However, that is where the good stuff ends. The wait for our meal was in excess of 50 minutes and it was only just before it was brought out that anyone bothered to apologise for the lengthy delay. When the meal arrived the avocado in one of our sandwiches wasn't properly peeled, they had no ketchup or brown sauce, and my meal was lukewarm. The delay was by far the biggest problem and at no point did they offer any discount or a free round of drinks. If it wasn't for the 'eat out to help out' discount we would have walked out. Just had a fantastic evening at the Distillery, Friargate, Derby celebraring my 53rd birthday. Service was impeccable, food delicious and ambience welcoming and relaxed. Maciej was brilliant and a credit to the company, warm, affable and extremely professional, nothing was too much for him. Olivia was lovely too. In these times it's so important that we support local businesses, where we find great service and delicious food it's imperative that we share these positive experiences. If you are thinking of somewhere to go in Derby that serves a delicious menu, simple and fresh with flair and a mega autumnal themed cocktail menu, I can't recommend the Distillery highly enough.
