The food looked very presentable and the restaurant design was beautiful. Unfortunately, the food itself was very bland. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from a Devon restaurant, as this seems to be the usual standard here, but I had hoped for better.
It felt like the dishes were made by someone who had been abroad, picked up a few recipes, and tried to recreate them without any real flavour. My plate, for example, had spinach that tasted like it had just been boiled in plain water and served absolutely no seasoning. The steak was also very dry and plain, with the usual standard English taste no flavour at all.
I actually had to drown my meal in ketchup just to get some taste, and I normally hate ketchup. Sadly, it was the only thing that saved my taste buds.
Honestly, I don’t think I can even give the food a star, as I couldn’t finish my meal and left feeling very disappointed. On top of that, I really didn’t like having to go up to the bar to pay for my food first it felt inconvenient and unnecessary.
I finished my food over 40 minutes ago, and nobody came to clear my plate. A few of the staff noticed, but still didn’t bother to ask if I was done. I’m really not sure what kind of service this is meant to be. I also wasn’t impressed with the way the staff were dressed. The all-black clothing looked untidy, especially as some outfits were too casual and short for a restaurant of this standard. On top of that, a few staff members were wearing dirty trainers cleanliness and presentation are just as important as the food, and it really should be taken more seriously. A proper uniform provided by the company would give a far better impression than everyone wearing mismatched black clothes
And finally, if you want to recreate the tastes of Liguria, Calabria, or Puglia, Vesuvio then please make sure you actually deliver what people come for authentic food with...
Read moreI was informed two times by two different members of staff that I was able to exchange items in a manner that would suit what I wanted in my meal choice and asked for the cinnamon butter to be in a pot if I didn’t like it then it wouldn’t spoil my overly costing meal, which appeared directly on top of the two luke warm pancakes with watered down maple syrup.
Needless to say I was told that what I had ordered wasn’t allowed after paying for it by what appears to be a supervisor or manageress, regardless of being half shown an entire flowchart, that could easily be available for customers to view, that what I asked for was available.
Fair enough if I was then just told I couldn’t have it next time and they’ll just honour my purchase, but to force myself to then pay more for what I already asked for anyway is a joke.
No Calories or statement on how many pancakes come with your brunch on the menu which means they can just change this at will is a bit of a con.
Music at the bar over a level that is hard too hear, so hope you don’t have hearing aids.
Simply put this is a waste of money for what is in a sense basic pretentious catering and £3 for a small 200ml coke, paying £1 more for gluten free bread or if you want Heinz beans instead of whatever bidfood bulk buy they get in.
I know my business won’t be missed but I shall not be back here...
Read moreIt's Sunday morning and we are on a bus adventure. From Teignmouth, we skipped down the hill from Wellswood and decided to come into Otto for the first time. We used to frequent this place when it was Wesup. It's nice, a step up from the previous. Seems to be very well patronised with lots of young and affluent couples eating huge great breakfasts. And they all look good....and come in so many different options!! Beautiful views towards the harbour ( not so good towards decrepit Debenhams) and the decor is lovely and the background music is cool and not overbearing. We couldn't face breakfast but had homemade granola and fruit selections, which were tasty. Plus, cos we loved the place, 2 coffees each. Breakfasts are served to mid afternoon when it turns into Pizza land. Plus a good selection of cocktails towards evening. Lovely venue, nice ambiance. Would give it a FIVE.....but.....they allow dogs in the place. Very sad....there really is no hiding place from the English obsession...
