Venturing to Torquay for a belated Valentine's excursion proved worthwhile despite our initial reservations. On a prior summer visit to Pier Point Restaurant and Bar, we experienced what can only be described as the nadir of coffee flavors, likely a consequence of our accustomed taste for 'beans to cup' coffee. Returning, we inquired about the coffee preparation method, and upon expressing our preference for takeaway, were directed to its sibling establishment, Pier Point Fish and Chips. Initially intent on just coffee, the sight of others dining tempted us to order Fish and Chips. Intent on enjoying our meal peacefully outdoors near Pier Point Restaurant and Bar (as captured in our video), we were promptly informed by a server that seating was not permitted. This policy, perhaps reasonable in peak season, seemed absurd in the desolate ambiance of February, where empty tables languished both inside and out. The management's inability to recognize that the sight of satisfied diners could attract passersby suggests a reevaluation of their hospitality strategy is in order, unless their ambition is to minimize exertion. Moreover, considering our presentable appearance (evidenced by a photo taken five minutes prior), this rigid stance seems particularly unjustified.

Turning to the culinary critique, the coffee remained disappointingly consistent with our previous experience, hinting at either stale or inferior quality Robusta beans over the preferable medium Arabica. However, the Fish and Chips presented a stark contrast. The fish was exemplary, melting in the mouth with a perfectly crispy batter—a must-try for any enthusiast of the dish, offering a rare opportunity to indulge in such succulent seafood. The chips, however, paled in comparison; dry and tasteless, they failed to complement the fish. Adopting a dual-frying technique could transform these fries into a creamy interior encased in a crispy shell, potentially elevating this establishment into the top echelons of UK culinary destinations. A reconsideration of both management flexibility and culinary technique is advised to enhance the overall...

Well i am not sure how would i go to pier point ice cream section here but i think this is the same place anyways . I would say the worst experience i ever had in UK . We ordered 2 strawberries, 1 chocolate, 1 banana and 1 raspberry sorbet . So the raspberry sorbet was melted and she was not able to put it in cone because obviously it was hot but did you ask my permission before you decided to put it in cup instead of cone by yourself ? I don’t like my ice cream in tub that was the reason i asked to put it in cone … When she was trying to given me i said no i don’t want in tub and she just given me look and then i asked i would take another flavour instead.. she aggressively thrown the tub in the dustbin and just given me little bit of another flavour which i asked .. i definitely felt that may be she behaved with me like that because of my skin color.. she wont dare to do that with white skin .. she had the audacity to be rude with the customer i mean i am not begging here girl … i paid for my ice creams . I also work in hospitality so i know how to deal with customers even when you are under stress . If you are angry because you are working in hot thats not my problem… i dont deserve your rude behaviour just because i asked for what i paid .. i didnt wanted to create a scene so i never said anything.. ON TOP OF THAT the strawberries ice creams were off .. my family asked me to go back and tell them but just because she was so rude at first place we went to another shop .. but whosoever owns this place .. i know this place is at prime location and anyways you gonna get customers no matter what .. and i know this one review doesn’t matter for you may be .. but if your employees treat like this to customers i would say one day there will be a day where people will start talking about this… specially locals …. If its possible i would give less then ONE STAR … and girl go and please learn how to work in hospitality.. because with this attitude you are not going no where in your career !!!!!!! WILL NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE EVER AGAIN #WILL NEVER RECOMMEND TO...

We ate at this restaurant last week whilst on holiday down in Torquay. Initially we'd assumed it would be an extension of the fish and chip shop servery located right next to it, but it's an entirely different menu. This isn't a problem in itself, but just so people know and don't go in expecting the same menu I thought it was worth mentioning.

The prices here are high. They're really very high indeed for what's on offer. We ordered a pizza to share, which was £14.95. I don't usually expect to pay that much for a cheese and tomato pizza in most restaurants, but hey, it's a tourist location so what can you do. BUT - for that price, I did not get what I was expecting at all. I'd been looking forward to a handmade pizza, cooked in a proper pizza oven, nice crisp base, lots of bubbles in the cheese and a real crunch to the bite. What we were served honestly looked like it had been heated up from frozen. The base was 100% pre-made, and didn't taste particularly great either.

Now I don't know whether they make these pizzas in the restaurant, or whether they're using pre-made pizzas and heating them up, but either way, charging £15 for it is bordering on criminal. I'd have got the same thing from a £2 Iceland pizza cooked at home.

My partner ordered a white wine and soda spritzer. Apparently they do not have soda water on draught, so we were charged £2 for an entire bottle of soda water, even though we never actually received it. She had a dash of it in the top of the wine - £2. We didn't realise this until ordering a second drink later on, where the waiter brought out a normal glass of wine and a full bottle of soda water. She didn't want a full bottle of soda water, so we refused it.

The one saving grace from our visit were the chips. Damn, they were good chips. I mean they were perfect. Crisp, proper chip shop chips, tasted lovely. For the chips, they get a star, and the staff who interacted with us were nice too, so they get a star. 2 stars overall. But would we visit again?...

Nice fish and chips restaurant that came 2nd in the fish and chips awards 2024. Ordered haddock and chips with extra curry sauce because the meal came with mushy peas and homemade tartar sauce. Ate in the restaurant and all were lovely with the excellent tartar sauce being better than the lovely home made one at Rockfish on the harbour. The large haddock was nice, not massive but not small, and the batter tasted lovely. Chips nice, curry sauce and mushy peas both very good. Lots of soft drinks and a licensed bar available. Round seating booths are roomy and staff are polite and nice with a button on the table to press for service. As a note, the same fish and chips are served on the adjoining outside takeaway hatch and are cheaper and you can eat them on the many seats outside on Princess Pier. The inside is quality though and worth a visit if you can afford it. Even though it is highly rated by me and many, it is my second favourite in the Torquay area as I prefer Crusoe's in the Willows for massive portions sizes, great chunky chips and fresh tasty haddock. Best on the sea front though. I prefer it to Hanbury's and Drakes in Babbacombe and Saltwater and Rockfish on the harbour. I also prefer it to the London Fryer in Paignton (they do fried monkfish!) and Paul's Plaice in Torquay (battered chips). (Not in the same league as the Magpie Cafe in Whitby or Cod's Scallops in Wollaton, Notts - just calling it).

Expensive with tiny portions. We came early evening on a Friday, it’s award winning and had a broad menu and a lovely location so we thought why not. Hubby ordered hake and chips (we’re convinced what came was haddock or cod - the texture and flavour was wrong for hake). I ordered mussels with garlic cream. The £22 fish and chips was nice, but not that big (I hate to think what a small would be like) the £22 mussels were tasty though very cream heavy but the portion was tiny!! 22 mussels, and three fingers of wafer thin bread - I soaked all three with the mussel sauce and it barely made a dent. I have a small appetite and this felt like a starter, I was still really hungry. We didn’t order desserts as they looked to be very small pieces of frozen style desserts which were equally expensive. I know the location is great but you can’t get away with both very high prices and tiny portions. Service was odd, brilliant greeting, then it was a case of pushing a button in the table for service. There were 6-8 tables with customers while we were there with 6 or 7 servers constantly stood behind the bar chatting. We asked for the bill and the card machine was brought over, I asked if we’d had the bill and the server just showed me amount on the machine, when I explained that I wanted a bill with the items on - this caused some confusion but he did get it. We left and went straight to Subway to get a sandwich to fill up.
