🌟🌟 Absolutely Smashed It 🌟🌟 Overall review 4.5/5 We actually stumbled across this venue by accident as we meant to go to a different place. However, we were in luck as they had space. We were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff who sat us down and gave us the menus. The ambience is pretty nice with a good arrangement of indoor seating for small and larger groups. With a smaller outdoor area. The menu is quite standard but offers variety with a set menu for 2 dishes at 30£ and the sunday roast at 22£, yes a little over priced what i thought at the beginning, however as we tried the dishes, the price was well deserved. The mussels starter was very generous and the flavour profile was just right with perfectly cooked mussels and a piece of bread to soak up the goodness. The whole seabass was an incredible dish with a crushed pea side and baby potatoes. They also filleted the fish so extra bonus. The seabass was great tasting and fresh. The 22£ Sunday roast was worth every penny as it goes in my top 10 of best British roasts in the UK. Which goes well with the fact i am in the top 5% of reviewers on Google. The roast chicken was 10/10 for being cooked to perfection still being juicy and firm. The cheese cauliflower was a great side along with the stuffing, roast potatoes and the Yorkshire pudding. Special mention has to go to the gravy, just perfectly seasoned and the right consistency for a Sunday roast. Recommendations Absolute must if you're in Torquay or not, go and enjoy the perfect lunch on a lovely sunny Sunday. We first visited On The Rocks last August and absolutely loved it. The service, the lunchtime set menu and the quality of food is incredible. We should have posted a review last year as we revisited just last week and despite being fully booked, the team (and the cool barman with the beard) were able to squeeze us in on both a lunchtime and on Friday night also. It was our last night on Holiday and one of our highlights of the week. The menu is simply amazing and there is something for everyone. The presentation of the dishes was what I can only describe as Michelin Star. We tried the Lamb Ragu, Oysters (which are the best we have ever eaten), Squid, Scallops and the Crispy Belly Pork for starters (had the Belly Pork and Oysters on all visits as it is all so good). For mains, we opted for the seafood linguine, West Country Rump and the catch of the day. All served hot, fresh and simply delicious. The service is welcoming and friendly and whether seated inside or out on the decking, it truly is a relaxing place to be. The different staff that served us were all equally professional and attentive and the owner was also serving tables and looking after her team and customers. We just hope there will be an "On The Rocks" opening in Southampton soon. We will be back!! Booking in advance is a must especially with the added COVID situation as these guys are booked up to 2 weeks in advance. I hope the photos do the food justice as it was simply incredible!

From the first email we sent enquiring if The Bay could accommodate us for our wedding reception in less than 7 weeks time I knew we would be in good hands. Everyone was so friendly and helpful leading up to our big day. We had upstairs to ourselves, it looked absolutely beautiful when we arrived, the decor is just lovely and the tables looked great. The appetisers of mini quiche, scotch eggs and smoked salmon bellini were delicious, all of our guests were raving about them. Having our own bar and outdoor space was just perfect and we were so lucky with the glorious sunshine. Everybody loved the starters and main courses. The whole evening was so well organised, we felt so relaxed, just enjoyed ourselves and all of our guests have commented on how perfect the evening at The Bay was. We honestly cannot thank you enough, we will be coming back regularly to remember our amazing wedding day!

This was highly recommended to us by the Grand hotel where we were staying. I had taken my friend for a 80th birthday surprise which was going great until we went to on the rock. 1.we were refused the option of ordering only one starter being told it's either 2 or 3 couse but the menu was individual priced we saw no offer of different courses. 2.we asked for a mussels as a start but they said no mussels left. Question thus because of no.4 3 we had a 1crab and 1 squid starter which was good. 4 my friend being Italian ordered seafood bolognaise. Which came out like a mountain of revomitted dog sick. There was a one large thick piece of white pasta which looked like a tape worm other pieces of pasta that looked like stewed something which we were told it's was green pasta. The plate was full of mussels, baby ocupus which she could not chop or chew. After nearly choking she could not face trying to eat anything eles. So we explained to the waiter she could not eat it as it was no where like a seafood bolognaise. And although they offers her something eles she could not face it as she felt ill from the baby ocupus. 5 My salad consisted of half a baby tomatoes lettuce 3 chucks of dried chicken some ham and smoothed with so much cheese that I felt ill before I found the chicken which I also could not eat. Also my friends meal made me feel sick as j just kept thinking of tape worms and whole baby ocupus stuck in my friend stomach. So I too could not eat it. 6 I tried to order half a cider shandy but was told I had to pay for whole bottle of large cider and a small bottle of lemonade which cost £10 but I could only drink half. 7 with the bolognaise there was no thought on the recipe as the mussels should of been clams but if they had no mussels for starter was the bolognaise a chuck together of left overs. No sauce in it. They never served a plate or bowl for shells or a lemon water bowl for dipping your fingers in. I generally felt the staff felt embarrassed about the quality of the food but still charged us full price for meals I would of never served in the first place. I fèl they could if offered us a free drink or another meal a different day as this would of gone towards the discussing food we obviously picked totally wrong. No idea who was in kitchen but no way will we ever chance going...

Very disappointed in our experience which was made worse by extremely rude and unreceptive manager Michelle.

Booked in advance as we were looking forward to trying this restaurant. We waited over an hour and a half for our food to just arrive, despite two other tables who arrived after us having their food and leaving in this time. This was raised to the waitress who agreed it was a long wait and she had already raised it. When the food arrived, three of the roasts had raw meat which was incredibly frustrating after waiting so long, we simply asked if it could be cooked longer, by the time this was sorted the rest of our party had finished their meal. When we asked to speak to a manager we were told she was dealing with some issues with other customers downstairs and would be up when she could. When the manager arrived her attitude was very unreceptive, uninterested and extremely dismissive, stating “what do you want?” Implying we were only raising our issues for our own gain which was extremely rude and completely untrue. The attempt to turn blame amongst us was the most unprofessional thing, stating it only took so long because one person ordered the chicken! Unfortunately this very poor attitude and unprofessionalism continued when we went to pay the bill. We were offered two meals free, yet did not receive an apology or any sign of empathy towards our poor experience. The manager laughed and smirked in my groups face numerous times then proceeded to look us up and down before again laughing. Also, the disgusting attempt to say we didn’t know what we were talking about when in fact two of our party own a restaurant and the other two in our group being managers, we all agreed we had never seen such terrible, rude management in our whole careers. Feel very sorry for the evidently embarrassed staff members who were trying their best and had to witness their managers awful customer service.

We definitely will never return and never would recommend under this management. Noticing other reviews I’m sure this will be dismissed but perhaps the management could listen to feedback from various customers and take...

I wasn't going to leave a review, but I've been thinking about it so much, I just want others to be aware. This restaurant used to be hands down my favourite in the bay, having been only a handful of times as it is such a treat and quite expensive. We went last night to spend a gift voucher I was given, having not been for over a year.

They have completely changed the menu, now with a more "main stream" feel, and more choices, but the options are ultimately, seafood or pizza.

The starter and focaccia was honestly delicious, but we both had a pizza and it was completely rubbish. Overcooked base and difficult to cut and eat, and the tomato sauce just tasted of raw tomato puree. There was dried egg yolk spread on mine which was really off-putting. Embarrassing that each of these would have been valued over £20 if prices were listed on the menu. Looking at other reviews, I've seen others have had a similar experience with pizza there.

As we had the voucher, for whatever reason, we didn't get given a bill and only realised after paying the rest that a 10% service charge was added without our knowledge. £81 for 2 arancini, 2 pizzas, some focaccia, one diet coke and one beer...

The service was alright and the staff were friendly but they were mostly dressed very casually with no uniformity and this certainly didn't add to a high end feel which is how they have always marketed themselves.

Finally, the layout of the restaurant has been changed and the new bits added around the original seating area feels very cheap and rushed, like you can tell this was not meant for patrons eyes initially. There was very little toilet paper and one of the locks on one of the toilet doors was broken. All added up to a deflating evening we had really looked forward to. Very sad to say I will not return nor...
