I traveled to York for the Christmas markets with three of my girl friends. We headed straight to Pitcher and Piano York from the train for lunch and drinks. It was quiet when we arrived at 11.30. Sat at a table which was sticky and dirty. Asked for a wet cloth and some cleaning solution to clean the table which we did ourselves.
Ordered food (mini plates) and drinks (two coffees and two cold drinks). The cold drinks were brought back from the bar with the coffee to follow. The food arrived with the coffees no where to be seen. Had to chase it up a few times before it they arrived.
We tucked into the food and noticed the chicken wings tasted odd. I then picked up a chicken skewer and nearly vomited from the smell. It was clearly beyond its used by date and even after cooking smelt like death. We gave the plate to a server who commented they couldn’t smell anything as they had a cold. A female employee was sent over to us and we explained the situation and that we were not confident to eat anything else after smelling that chicken. For chicken to smell that bad cooked it must have been smelly when raw and cooking and for a chef to be okay serving that is not okay.
The server said they would refund the food and went away for a card machine. We waited for a while for her to return. She then said she would come back with the refund receipt. After 10 minutes my friend went to find the server and get the receipt. She was presented with a receipt for two full English breakfasts which she pointed out to the server. She was told the receipt couldn’t be found.
The refund is not shown on the card.
I wouldn’t recommend this venue at all. Even the basics aren’t there in terms of service but more than that the cleanliness and basic food hygiene aren’t there and someone will end up...
Read moreSTOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND GET YOURSELF TO PITCHER & PIANO YORK—because if you haven’t experienced a night with Katie behind the bar, you haven’t truly lived.
From the moment we walked in, Katie owned the place. She wasn’t just making drinks—she was crafting liquid masterpieces with the skill of a world-class mixologist and the speed of a bartender possessed by sheer brilliance. The bar was packed, the orders were flying in, but did that slow her down? Not a chance. She was a force of nature, shaking cocktails like a symphony conductor, pouring pints with pinpoint accuracy, and still flashing the kind of warm, genuine smile that made you feel like you’d just reunited with a long-lost best friend.
Her energy? Electric. Her service? Unparalleled. Her ability to keep the entire bar hyped up, engaged, and having the time of their lives? Legendary. She wasn’t just serving drinks—she was setting the vibe for the whole night, making everyone feel like they were part of something special. The way she handled the chaos with such effortless charm and charisma? Oscar-worthy.
I’m convinced Katie isn’t just a bartender—she’s a hospitality icon, a customer service queen, and the beating heart of Pitcher & Piano York. I would travel miles just to have another drink made by her. If you’re reading this and still thinking about whether to go, let me make it easy for you: GO. NOW. And when you do, raise a glass to Katie, because she’s the reason you’ll have an unforgettable night.
Someone get this woman a medal. Or a raise. Or both.

Read moreI ended up in York on my day off from work... Absolutely beautiful quaint town with gorgeous nostalgic little and large buildings, with a maze of quaint little cobbled streets and alleys.. After a lovely few hours of taking in the scenery, I was rather thirsty and in need of a little tipple. I found this an ideal place... It has a variety of different outside seating areas which overlook onto the river(we had lots of fun waving to the folk that went by on the river cruises, who in turn were enjoying waving back 😁).also has outside heating for when it gets a little chilly. My only fault was that they didn't have diet coke to go with my vodka, so I couldn't drink my usual tipple... But.. the cocktail menu saved the day... They do a buy two for one on a selected few cocktails or a sharing jug... Got to try the zombie one, the effects are brilliant... comes to you with smoke effects pouring out of it(I know big kid here 🤣)... I didn't eat here, but did have a quick browse through the menu, and there was plenty of choice... Staff were lovely.. Definitely going to be my first choice pub to be for when I take my next trip to...
