After a trip to Leeds Bradford Airport and back I dropped family off and was hungry. Passing Pollards I pulled over and got my dinner and heading home it’s smelt good.
The service in the shop was manic to say the least, the shop was very clean tho (always good when food is concerned). The staff friendly and all full of smiles and helpful.
The food The curry was a little too spicy for me and was like water, I love a good fruity curry. This was not good at all. Yes it’s personal choice and I understand lots of other people would love the curry but for me it was not my thing. The chips were a big let down most were hard and some seemed to be burnt just on the bottom (not sure what that was about). The odd chip was soft and when I got to taste these chips they were really nice soft and fluffy inside but they were far out done by the hard ones. The fish was the hidden gem in this order. I’m not sure how they have made this batter but what ever they have been doing keep doing it. The batter was amazing, it was crisp thick and the taste was to die for. Without a doubt the best batter on a peace of fish I’ve ever had in my life. The fish was perfect soft, full of taste and cooked...
Read moreThis shop used to be really nice but has seemingly gone off the boil over recent weeks /months for average punters when they are not serving YouTubers. I’ve given 2 stars only on reputation but in reality tonight’s experience was a 1 star. Ordered small fish special half hour before closing time to rolling eyes and staff complaints at having to make more batter and chips. It was a small fish however i would have preferred a couple of fish fingers, it was all batter and that wasn’t nice. At one time I remember pollards serving light and crispy batter but in recent time it hasn’t been the case in my last few experiences. Tonight it was thick, hard and I left half of my tiny Nemo. The chips were average so overall I was very dissatisfied. I appreciate they try to give value for money but to be honest I’d rather pay a couple of pounds more for quality. I’m not sure if staff changes or management taking their eye off the ball is the reason but I’ve been disappointed at my last three visits so would be very unlikely to give it another chance as quality and consistency...
Read moreHull’s chippies are legendary, and Pollard’s usually serves up a fantastic corned beef patty butties. The patty itself....crispy golden batter promising a well-seasoned, hearty filling. A proper comfort bite. But the breadcake… oh dear...it'd seen some battles. It looked like it’d been through a minor explosion in the bread bin, with a crust that was dodgier than Karl Turner. It had that unfortunate dry, crumbly top that shatters on impact, leaving a breadcrumb crime scene in its wake. Taste-wise, it still did the job—fried goodness and a carb-heavy hug. But to be honest, that breadcake was either left out for too long or picked by someone with a grudge against soft rolls. A good butty, let down by a questionable bread situation. Will I get it again? Yeah, but I’ll be praying for a fresher breadcake so I can...
