After attending this place with my wife several times per month during the summer, we were turned away this weekend because I was wearing tailored shorts, the reason being "it's September now." Meanwhile ladies were getting in fine wearing the shortest of short skirts.
I was tempted to just tell the door staff (who were in no way responsible for this policy) that I was identifying as a women for the evening to see if this would solve the issue, but we decided instead to go over the road to Bruxelles and we had a good night there.
We really like this place but on Saturday they scored a massive own goal and the door staff told me they had turned away several that night for the same reason. September it may be but it got up into the low 20s on Saturday and was a warm humid night, and this doesn't address the other issue of why it's not ok for a bloke to wear short trousers but it's fine for a lady to do so and then some. Is that even legal these days...I'm not sure it is.
No common sense, no regard for a regular customer who has spent a fortune there....
I've given it 2 stars only because the lad on the door didn't try to defend the policy, and was a nice guy just...
Read moreWent out with my BF on a date to the movies and found this place after for food. Never been to before but it peeked our interest. We do love trying new places. Though with me being vegan, I do worry sometimes about trying new things from places I haven’t been to before. But wanted to give it a try. He chose the fish and chips and I gave the ‘Wild mushroom risotto’ a go, never had before. To my surprise, I really enjoyed it. It was really nice and had such flavour to it. I’d definitely have it again. We also got pudding, of course. I got the vegan brownie which was so rich and soft, the sorbet with it was so good also. Then my bf got the white chocolate & passionfruit cheesecake which he really enjoyed also. Another thing is that I don’t drink, so finding a place which has fun options also for me is a plus. As I do like to give mocktails a go if I can. I got the ‘painters punch’ and ‘elderflower mint fizz’ both were really good and it’s nice to be able to enjoy a good and fun drink also rather than having a basic option. Also, staff were really kind and fun to be around. Seemed like they were enjoying each other’s company and having good conversations. Thank...
Read moreWent here on Sunday with a few friends after a university reunion night. We had already stated that Sunday morning was going to be a roast at QoB, was good service staff very friendly and nice. Was pretty quiet, but starters took around about 20 minutes to arrive despite being bruschetta and some halloumi sticks. Fair enough, was quite tasty. Ordered the roast dinners and fair enough again took a decent amount of time, as a former chef I appreciate it takes as long as it needs to take. What I wasn’t happy with was the portions of the roast, for 12 odd quid I was given 3 small quarters of roast potatoes, about 200g of vegan nut roast and the rest of the meal filled up by carrots, cabbage, and cauliflower cheese. Individual parts of the dish were quite tasty, as mentioned the cauliflower cheese and the nut roast. But the portions were tiny. Had to go to eat somewhere else immediately afterwards. Not really impressed considering that it used...
