Severn Gorge — Restaurant in England

Visited yesterday (Boxing Day) for a Christmas meal 3 course, starters, carvery & desserts. Walked into the restaurant, very quiet at lunchtime. Sat down at our table which was in a cramped corner of the restaurant when there was plenty of other free tables to be seated at with more space and comfort. Not a great start to the experience and this is just the beginning to the day. The starters were late, there was confusion with the ordering of pigs in blankets whether they were included with the carvery so we paid extra due to the confusion with the booking system over the telephone. The carvery was acceptable. The mess continues. After finishing the mains, we as a family were ready for our desserts. No waiter's available to clear our table of dirty plates and request the desserts. Still waiting for the table to cleared, a member of staff believed to be a manager was apologetic and told us she came into work into the mess that restaurant was experiencing and that orders were backed up and no one knew what they were doing. This particular staff member arranged free drinks as a way of an apology. This didn't exactly go to plan either and the wrong drinks were brought to our table. This was eventually corrected. Still at the point were are still waiting around for our desserts roughly 45 minutes after finishing our carvery. The desserts finally arrived after one of my family members went over to the bar about 3 times to find out what was going on. The desserts arrived about 1 hour after the carvery and they were wrong and some inedible and not what ordered. To finish, paying the bill was a farce with staff members getting asked to do help serve drinks to the other customers even though they were meant to assisting us with the bill. We visited Severn Gorge mid week for a carvery as we thought we would try it as had not visited for a while. The pub as a lovely atmosphere with friendly staff and we both ordered a carvery and a drink and found a table and then went to get our carvery. There was no queue at the carvery and also no server either and had to wait a while and even the lady that served us at the bar had to tell us that the server won’t be long, which was a further 5 minutes. We finally got our meat served and then served our veg which I must add was average with some of the veg being very dry. We went to the gravy station which there was only enough for one but when I asked the server on the carvery for more gravy he replied “I will get you some more now” which was 5 minutes later whilst I stood waiting for whilst my husband had his and was sat down and mine was just getting cold. The condiments of mustard, cranberry, mint sauce etc were also low and could have done with topping up. We thought that although this place is lovely it lacks enough staff to ensure that things are kept topped up with attention to detail. We felt quite sorry for the carvery server as he was expected to go everything which is impossible to do and we just think that at peak times, 4pm to 7pm there should be more staff as this improve the quality of...

We ordered 3 carvey 2 80z rump steaks the steak took 50 mins to come out , while we waited for the carvey so we could wait together. I ordered the 8oz for my two younger children, when it came out the steak was charcoal and full cremated. The size of the steak was absolutely disgusting and wouldn't of been a portion fkr an adult never mind a child. The carvey , the beef was full of fat and grissle, the roast potatoes were like rubber reheated and chewy , the Yorkshire pudding tasted of dirty oil and very unpleasant. The mash potatoe is clearly processed mash . So poor and distasteful. My son couldn't eat his steak as it was rock hard no wonder it has been cooked fir 50 mins! Portions were disgusting on meals , we asked for no mushrooms or tomatoes thry came out with both and wasn't asked if we wanted anything else in it place like other places do. 2 onions rings which were soggy and clearly frozen but not cooked fuly . It was awful and it wasnt even busy , there was about 20 people in there. We got given a refund for 4 of our 5 meals, dont know how that can be justified!
