Herself, myself and 2 of our oldest and dearest friends had dinner in the restaurant on Monday 30th August.
We are all from Bedfordshire but now with ties in the North East.
We had a brilliant evening at the Shaj.
The staff, especially our waiter were superb. Extremely, but not overly attentive which was perfect. Nothing was too much. And we were not rushed as we enjoyed a lazy couple of hours eating great food and enjoying each others company whilst dragging other customers into our conversation on black or grey wheelie bins and any other topic that was covered.
We all love tasty, flavoursome but not hot Indian food. And when it arrived it was perfect. Exactly as ordered. Served on hot plates. And was delicious from the first chapati full to the last poppadom scoop. Infact, there was nothing left. Probably the best tarka dhal any of us have eaten.
All in just about £100.00.
It's approximately a 540 mile round trip from here in Bedfordshire to Newbiggin-by-the-sea and I tell you what I'd go there and back everyday of the week and twice on Sunday it was that good.
And importantly the restaurant was full of socially distanced guests all enjoying a thoroughly relaxing and friendly atmosphere.
Thankyou so much.

Read moreWe've been meaning to come here for a while as we're looking at buying somewhere local and it's important to have a top rate Indian restaurant on the doorstep. Liked the interior, clean and modern - decent ambience with the music and the staff were professional and attentive. Service was exceptionally quick, quicker than expected for the cooking time. I tried the house special curry which had chicken tikka and lamb in a nice sauce. Mrs D went for her usual madras - which unfortunately she found lacked a bit in flavour. Prices were good and we enjoyed our visit, we'll definitely return and hopefully the madras will hit the spot next time. That's the thing with curry - you can't always please everyone as people have different tastes and...
Read moreWe are on holiday and had high expectations of this place. Staff very friendly on arrival and food was cooked quickly . Even had a pint while waiting which was nice. Ordered lamb buna which you needed a magnifying glass to find the lamb. Lots of cut up veg and onions through but totally tasteless and more like a bad lamb casserole . The onion Badji was also tasteless and greasy. The nan bread however was good and a bit of a saviour for the meal. Hopefully this is a blip and not the usual...
