We were excited to try this cafe today after walking over from Brighton and reading the good reviews. The place was fairly empty so we took a seat and waited a while to see if we would be served. There were two ladies stood at the bar not really doing anything and when I went over to them to order they said they would come over to me. First red flag!
My partner ordered a chicken and bacon salad bowl with a scotch egg and I ordered a quiche with a vegan sausage roll on the side. Firstly they got the salad bowl wrong and instead brought out a sandwich (a chicken and bacon sandwich wasn't even on the menu?), which we kept to not cause a fuss but my partner said it was dry and tasteless.
When my veggie quiche came out it looked impressive due to its size but once you tucked into it it was about 1/4 filling and 3/4 plain omellete with bits of shell in it that I struggled to eat.
We were hoping that the scotch egg and vegan sausage roll would have arrived with our mains at the same time, but sadly they came out 15 mins later (after we reminded them) and they brought out a meat sausage roll instead of vegan. By this point we had lost interest in trying to keep the magic of this meal alive and although the young waitress we had was sweet, she was unable to take a simple order and act quickly to put things right when errors were being made. My guess is she was new to the job.
Overall, the food and service was below average. While they did knock off the two drinks from our bill, there was still a lack of apology when things went wrong which would have made the whole experience...
Read moreI've been here twice. The first time wasn't great, but as anyone can have a bad day we gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried again. I wish we hadn't. On our first visit the service was slow. We felt like an inconvenience - an unwelcome distraction from scrolling on their phones. I had a chocolate orange brownie, which looked delicious, but rather unexpectedly it was not just chocolate orange, but also rum and raisin. It was very boozy, which some may well like, but it wasn't to my taste and I couldn't eat it. In my opinion it not great to serve up an alcoholic dessert with no indication, as many people don't drink or avoid alcohol for any number of reasons. On our second visit the service was slower than before, yet still staff had time to keep checking their phones. This time I had a berry chocolate cake, which looked very nice, but again I couldn't finish it because this time I found mould on the raspberries - something I only noticed halfway through eating the cake. Very unimpressed. We raised this with staff and the answer we received was a very indifferent 'oh' - and they had the nerve to still charge us for the mouldy cake! It's a shame as the cafe looks very nice from the exterior, but needless to say we won't...
Read moreAfter reading the positive reviews for this cafe I decided to take my family here for breakfast on the last day of our holiday. It was a bit of a squeeze, too many tables for such a small space. We sat down and after about ten minutes the waitress came, we ordered 2 lattes, a hot chocolate and a capri sun, the lattes came and were luke warm and full of foam, my eldest waited over 30 minutes for her hot chocolate after we reminded them. We ordered 2 full English, a sausage and bacon bap and a sausage bap, eventually after a long wait the food arrived, everything was burnt or black from using the same pan or dirty pans for all the food, I mean how can you ruin a tomato but they managed to do so. The toast was only done one side so it was more like soggy bread, all the slices on my plate had mould on them. The food was disgusting and cold. The sauce bottles were so old that the labels were faded, the metal on the salt shaker was rusty, truly a revolting experience, would not recommend. The couple next to us also left a lot of food, I was so annoyed I forgot to take photos! Would not recommend to family and friends in Rottingdean or wider areas. Please avoid...
