Received a £60 lunch gift voucher from my son for the Sindhu Restaurant. The food was nothing special but I would say my starter and dessert were nice. Totally spoilt by the the bill which included £5 for 1 bottle of water and £9.90 for 2 small coffee’s plus £9.36 SERVICE CHARGE. I spoke to the waiter who said the service charge was because we ordered a bottle of water and 2 coffee’s and this was correct. Stupidly I didn’t challenge this and paid. The bill was made up of the £60 credit voucher plus 1 bottle of water at £5 and 2 small coffees at £4.95 each Plus the SERVICE CHARGE of £9.36. My son would be extremely embarrassed and disappointed if he were find out that his present cost me an additional 28.7% charge!! After drinking the coffee outside and getting more annoyed, I went to the receptionist at the Compleat Angler, Marlow, to explain that I felt a gift voucher should include any service charge. She informed me that the restaurant was not part of the hotel and walked me back to the restaurant to speak to the manager who appeared very annoyed but refunded me the service charge. Needless to say that we will not be returning to this restaurant in the Compleat Angler. If we had bought coffee from the bar and had been charged a SERVICE CHARGE of £9.39 for a bill of 9.90 I certainly wouldn’t have paid it. Be aware, there is nothing stated in terms and conditions and the restaurant staff don’t tell you, so: DON’T ORDER EXTRAS UNLESS YOU WANT TO PAY THROUGH THE PROVERBIAL NOSE!!!!!

We drove for 2 hours to Sindhu, Marlow to celebrate a very special occasion with my parents. All of us ordered their 7 course tasting menu along with some drinks. Half way through the meal, my mother noticed something in her Rasbhari mocktail, she thought it looked like a pretty big bug so I called over a waiter and after investigating they confirmed that in fact it is a BUG in the drink. Then we were casually asked if we want a replacement drink…? Note, my mother had been sipping on an INSECT for an hour. We urged to see the manager immediately, who supposedly wasn’t there. The maitre d apologised and somewhat defended the food’s safety and urged us to finish our meal. My mother got extremely nauseous, of course, and ran off to the W/C. And thereafter, our mood and evening was spoiled. Sindhu’s prices are at par, and in some cases, more than some similar “high-end” restaurants. But it certainly lacks the same class! We were still required to pay for part of our bill. Any restaurant of the stature Sindhu pretends to be, and one with an ounce of pride, would not charge you a single penny after putting you through a food safety risk like this. Constant requests and complaints later, we were still not given a chance to speak to the manager. Safe to say we will never be returning to Sindhu. Thanks for ruining my parents’ special evening. Ps. It made me wonder how many times such a thing has gone unnoticed by a customer, it was only by chance my mother noticed it her colourful drink.

Arriving at the hotel in which the restaurant is situated, we had the amazing view of the river and entered the hotel to be welcomed by the staff with happy faces. The staff took us to our seats and were very accommodating of my coconut allergy. They took our order and we enjoyed the view of the river. Shortly after this, the poppadoms were placed before us. These were amazing, I was pleasantly surprised when the smaller poppadoms just melted in my mouth. The chutneys both had an amazing flavour. This was then followed by the starter, the chicken tikka was beautifully moist, with a little kick of spice to it. Then the mains came and the lamb was beautifully tender and the curry was fragrant. The naans also came and they were really nice with the cheese melted just right to get that stringy effect. The puddings came and it was very nice, the honeycomb on the Rasmalai was a nice touch and the vanilla ice cream was very rich and creamy. The drinks we had through the meal were very nice, the mango lassi wasn’t too thick and the mojito was flavoursome and the chilli didn’t make it too spicy. Overall, an amazing meal with amazingly attentive staff. I would definitely recommend eating here.

Went on a Saturday evening and it was very busy which is fine but it was SO noisy!! Had to literally shout across our table for 2 to be heard. We'd recently dined at Sindhu aboard P&O Brittania which was a very different atmosphere so we were a little surprised and disappointed. It is after all run by a Michelin starred chef so expected a smarter vibe. My food was delicious!! My husband on the other hand was very disappointed with his biryani main. Dry and tasteless. It is not cheap to eat here so all of the dishes should be of a much higher standard. We went for our anniversary expecting a re run of Sindhu Brittania and quite honestly there is no comparison. We actually would not of thought both were run by Atul Kochhar had we not known beforehand. Sadly, I doubt we'll return. Shame.

We had the 7 course tasting menu, which was delicious. We loved the coriander pickle that came with the poppadoms and they were kind enough to give us a small container of it to take away. One suggestion to the serving staff; talk to the guests to see how regularly they'd like the courses to be presented. Some people are happy to have the whole meal done within 30-40 minutes, but we wanted to go at a much more leisurely pace and discuss the tastes and flavours of each course, and we had to ask them a couple of times to slow the pace down. We also decided to stay the night at The Compleat Angler as they had some great value rooms as a 'last minute' rate. The attached picture is of the hotel/restaurant from the other side of the river Thames.
