As I entered the pub I was greeted by a friendly barman I asked for a copy of the food menu and took a seat. Looking at the menu I became slightly disappointed as there were very few non meat options additionally the menu was presented poorly and prices were listed strangely eg. 6.5 instead of £6.50 , however I decided on an option and waited patiently after an hour of waiting a couple entered with a dog took a menu and sat on the table next to me. The couple were served immediately and during service it became apparent one of the couple also worked here. After a further 40 minutes I was ready to leave however the barman returned, I was sure I would be served now however I was not. The barman went on to discuss the fact he had served a 16 year old girl named izzie and stated he "wasn't arsed" he also noted he had instructed her to lie about the content of her drink if she were asked to produce ID. An absolutely disgraceful...
Read moreFirst visit to the Bowling Green with Family, recommended by a friend. First impressions are, a warm lovely little pub with friendly staff. We had a party of 9 and everyone except myself had a Sunday roast ( Fish&Chips for me ). The food came and the first thing I noticed was the size of the Yorkshire puddings (Massive). Everyone's food came piping hot 🔥. My fish and chips were very nice I enjoyed every bit, again came out piping hot. From the very start the staff were excellent accommodating us all with drinks nothing was any trouble and they were busy on this day being Mothers Day. Everyone really enjoyed the roast dinners, all came with plenty of veg and also cauliflower cheese 😊 and jugs of gravy everyone had a big plate full. I will definitely be returning in the near future. The food and service are both exceptional and the chef in my opinion is very talented and a credit to the...
Read moreThe Bowling Green is perfectly acceptable pub with no major flaws. You can have a nice meal here, enjoy a decent pint and, in the summer, sit out in the spacious beer garden. I do however think they are missing a trick or two. The Bowling Green is set up primarily for eating, which means if you just want a drink on a Sunday afternoon, then this is probably not the place for you. The drinks are also very expensive at over four quid for a bottle of larger. Overall I get the feeling that the management are actually trying to discourage customers who just want a drink, which is a shame, as the bowling green is a classic Cheshire pub right on the banks of a river - which is almost unique in my experience. Visit for yourself and see, I can't imagine that you'd be...
