What a find, hidden amongst the Newquay mediocrity, I introduce 'The Clover Club'. A stylish bistro vibe, modern decor, minimalist chic knock your socks off 'small' plates to tickle any tastebud.
The menu is brief but punchy with a mix of comfort dishes such as the truffle chips, through to modern European delights such as the slow cooked pigs cheek, and the insanely morish squid.
The service from the moment we entered, plus 1 x wet spaniel in tow, was bright, friendly and fun, and continued to be attentive and polite throughout our feast.
The honey rum old fashioned and the watermelon coolers were flowing and tasted good, helped keep our spirits up after a full day of rain and travel.
All the dished were freshly prepared, the ingredients excellent and the execution of the food was second to none. Don't expect everything to be delivered at once, enjoy the flow of exceptional and carefully prepared dishes hit your table when they are ready, a great grazing time for a table of 2 or a table of 8.
It's not cheap, and nor should it be, but it's not BIG money. If you care about food, service and imagination, then it would be a travesty to ignore this pearl in the the harsh shell of Newquay's more 'rugged' eating...
Read moreDiscovered this eatery whilst in Newquay and looked up places to eat on tik tok and google last minute. Service was excellent, staff very polite and welcoming. Atmosphere was really nice, it was busy and had a buzz to it. We ordered some dishes - flat bread with hummus rate it 5/5 - CFC chicken 1/5 as it was overcooked and the coating completely bland, there was no taste to it all as if the seasoning may have been missed out - truffle fries 5/5 exceptionally indulging - pork belly 5/5 very tasty, steak strips 4/5 very nice , but the most disappointing dish was the crab doughnuts 0/5 - unfortunately these again were without seasoning and extremely bland and considering the cost of the dish and the mention of its popularity I was indeed quite let down. However, I did request some chilli sauce or fresh chillies but the waitress mentioned they don’t serve that separately. They only had a sweet chilli which wasn’t ideal for me. Overall- it is still a buzzy place to be tried and i would definitely visit again but will try other dishes too....
Read moreWe met the one of the owners parents whilst in town and they suggested we visit we had high hopes due to the reviews we saw.
The croquettes were out of this world good . Steak was sadly overcooked and dry. Kids menu was good and our son was happy with that. Fries served last (we had to ask for them) a good 10 mins after first dish which -although we get its tapas style -seemed strange how the thing that requires no chef experience took the longest to arrive.
Young blonde female waitress was nice but made no effort to chat - just took and delivered order.
The place was very cold so we did keep our coats on most of the time.
As another review mentioned the place had 4 tables free for the time we were there but we noticed a lot of people came in and got turned away or told to wait untill their booking time.whether they were booked maybe 45 mins later who knows .
Would we return? Probably not but that’s just our taste maybe and the fact we had such high hopes but it didn’t hit...
