Overly pretentious establishment with incredibly rude staff. We asked to sit on a specific table, were then told "it would be easier if you sat over there"... Weird but OK. Were not sure what to order but decided to go for a bottle of prosecco (that was on their menu) asked for 3 glasses. Asked for another glass shortly afterwards only to overhear a member of staff say (holding the bottle of prosecco) "what do they think this is a bloody wine bar?" The member of staff realized we heard and were very polite for the rest of our visit but they didn't actually apologize. Huge fan of micro breweries and craft ale but this place has all the worst parts of the stereotyped snobbishness rolled into one. Usually we'd order craft beer but just didn't feel like it. Don't put something on your menu if you are going to slag off your customers when they order.

Such a refreshingly outstanding place for Saltash drinkers. No food, no loud music, no phone calls, just a nice hum from people talking to each other. Really hoping the guys running it get the credit and business they deserve. Decor is fantastic. Range of local beers is great, priced extremely reasonably and they are only selling the good stuff and none of the usual rubbish. Recommend the Thundercloud from Firebrand brewery in Launceston, could have stayed and got thoroughly pie-eyed! Not tried them but was tempted by the range of local gins too.

My third or fourth visit in as many months and still consistently good. Quiet ambience, pleasing decor and a beer list bordering on both trad and contemporary with a heavy bias towards local beers, kept in top condition and served at your table by enthusiastic staff. Saltash is once again a destination for a decent beer after perusing the charity shops and record shop across the road. A gem.

As residents of Saltash we've spotted this place many times and were excited to visit. We brought some friends with us and on a tour of all the best bits of Saltash we entered this micropub. I myself am not a fan of craft beers but my group are and I asked for a glass of Prosecco. On the menu it states that prosecco can only be bought by the bottle so we decided to order a bottle to share whilst my friends looked over the menu and ordered something different. One of our group went up to the bar to request an extra glass, only to overhear the staff talking about myself & friends very rudely, saying, "What do they think this is, a wine bar?" Now correct me if I'm wrong but not only is that completely uncalled for, but surely as a small business you should be grateful that customers walk through the door and choose your business to enjoy their time in and spend their money? At ÂŁ20 a bottle and with plenty of seats to spare, surely a business can't be pretentious enough to actually think it's OK to treat people like that? It was completely unnecessary and ruined what could have been such a wonderful experience....

I visited The Cockleshell last week with a good friend, and I can honestly say I’ve never felt more welcomed in any pub or taproom. Andy, the co-owner and landlord, takes hospitality to another level—chatting with you, understanding your tastes, and personally bringing drinks to your table. The full table service and even small touches, like encouraging a phone-free experience, create the perfect atmosphere for genuine conversation.

Beyond the warm welcome, The Cockleshell is directly connected to Wilful Beer, the local brewery Andy co-owns, meaning you get an incredible selection of fresh, top-quality beers you’ll struggle to find up north . If you’re in Cornwall and looking for something truly special—a great pint, a unique experience, and unbeatable hospitality—I can’t recommend The...
