The Cod Shop, like The Godfather, the Cod Shop makes you an offer you can't refuse!
I knew this would be my final meal in Minehead, and I couldn't resist, as I was by the glorious seaside, a spot of wonderful fish and chips.
Some of my readers will know, I do have a kryptonite: Shellfish. I'm severely allergic to shellfish. Cedric has tried several times to poison me, but he has failed. As such, I have to be very careful when eating fish and chips due to the fact that fish and chip shops cook scampi in the same oil as the fish.
I called into the Cod Shop and informed them of my allergy. They were more than willing to oblige and provided me with a piece of fish that was cooked separately from the main oil.
As I waited for the fish to be cooked, I received yet another text informing me that Nigel had crossed Italy, Switzerland, the Alps (much to the confusion of Swiss mountain yodelers who saw an ostrich with an old woman flailing like a flag on his back), and had reached Calais and was preparing to cross the English Channel.
My fish arrived with my curry sauce and chips, and it was amazing. Tender fish. Crispy batter. Well-seasoned chips and a tangy curry sauce. Excellent food. I sat on the benches outside and scoffed the lot.
As I strolled back to the seafront, my cannon had been shipped from Llantwit Major and mounted on the beach. This was the end of my holiday.
As I was getting ready to load myself into the cannon, I was surprised when Nigel and the old lady rushed towards me on the beach and came to a screeching halt. The old lady finally let go of the reins and was thrown into the sand, trembling and traumatized. I gave her a poke with a sharp stick, and she was still alive.
I reminded her that it was £1 per minute for a ride on Nigel. She had had him for 80 hours, and as such, owed me £4,800. She didn't seem best pleased. I put Nigel back in my hat and fired myself back to Wales!
What a holiday!

Read moreWe went into The Cod Shop on Monday 10th April, we were welcomed despite being a large party of 14, including young children and pets. We dined in and found everything to be spotlessly clean, the tiles on the wall are pure white and shiny so are obviously cleaned regularly. Our food was served quickly, it was piping hot and just as ordered. Some of us had the small cod meal, at first I thought the fish was a bit small but when I cut into it I found it was a very thick piece of cod cooked to perfection! The portions of chips were a good size, tasty and the accompanying peas, curry, gherkins, bread and butter etc were all fresh, well presented and very tasty! There were notices up around the restaurant with information about speaking to the staff about any allergies or intolerances and the manager was very knowledgeable on this subject. He took great care and listened carefully to make sure all of our needs were met as five of our party suffer with severe allergies. The staff were very polite, friendly and attentive, we were really impressed with the good manners of the young man who brought our food over to the tables. A great experience, good food with fast service, lovely staff and a very clean establishment, I would highly recommend them and we will be dining there again next time we are...
Read moreWalking up down The Avenue, there were a few choices, but in the end we went to The Cod Shop.
It would have been nice to sit outside, but it had started to rain, so we sat inside.
It was a really nice decor inside, there was a blue and white seaside theme throughout the restaurant. I thought it was really nice calming environment.
Took a table and looked over the menu. It was lunchtime, and I wasn't overtly hungry (having just spent two hours sitting on a train) I went with the small cod special. This was a small cod, chips, a side, a dip, and a drink. I had mushy peas and mayonnaise with my cod. It wasn't long before our food arrived.
The cod had a lovely crisp batter, and the fish was well cooked. The chips were a little...
