I stayed with my daughter for 2 nights before Christmas. I booked the family room so that we had a bed each. On arrival we found that the 2nd bed was in another room within the room (there was a main room, single room, bathroom and hallway). It was a single bed and table in a tiny room, nothing on the walls, the curtains were put up so badly that it looked like a squat. We couldn’t open them. The whole room was freezing cold, not just cold. It felt as though there had been no heating on for days, if not weeks. The bedding and pillows were cold and felt almost damp. I had paid for early check in, but the radiator was not on. I went down to enquire and was told that the heating was on a timer – this was the middle of December! Paying for early check in means the room will be ready, this was not done. The table and chairs by the window are lovely – but the chairs were shabby and stained, we sat on the bed instead. We ate in the bar the first night, the food was ok, expensive though and not worth the money. Food was thrown on the plate, frozen fries, no garnish etc. Although my daughter had a wonderful Dutch apple dessert – a lot of thought had been put into that. Hardly any veggie choices – usual margerita pizza and pasta with sauce, yawn. We cancelled our booking for the next night and ate out instead. Breakfast was great, all well made, nice coffee. The staff are all friendly and lovely. The next night there was a storm. The windows whistled all night. The curtains didn’t close properly. I ended up in bed with the duvet, a bathroom towel and my coat on top of me! In the bathroom there was a locked cupboard (boiler?) which had a vent on the outside wall. The vent whistled and rattled all night. I know that this is an old building, but when you are charging £120 per night then the rooms have to be to standard. It isn’t boutique, nor quirky, nor shabby chic, it is just shabby. The Inn is in a great position, with wonderful views but we found it disappointing and were glad to leave, it wasn’t the weekend we were hoping for.

This is the worst hotel we’ve ever stayed at! It’s freezing cold because the windows are single pane and don’t fit, letting cold draughts in. My room didn’t have a curtain rail and had one curtain pinned either side. My friend’s room curtains were hanging off. The bathroom was bitterly cold with no radiator and after my friend tried the shower & found it only lukewarm, I couldn’t even bear to strip off in there. The shower pull was snapped off at ceiling height too. The toilet seat was barely attached, so you almost ended on the floor when sitting on it. There were no mirrors in the bedrooms and although the rooms had a nice decor, there was nowhere to hang any clothes. We were shocked to hear last orders at 9.30pm and asked if residents could still drink, but were told “not here, I’m cashing up!” The solo barman then poured himself a pint, sat in a booth next to us & watched videos on his phone whilst laughing loudly! He could have sat at the other end of the room in peace as the bar was empty, but made us feel aukward enough to go to bed early. The meals were good and included in a deal. The drinks however, were a lot more expensive than the lovely pub in the village and in better venues. The whole experience was just bad…really bad!

Great pub/restaurant in an amazing location with fantastic views. Staff are remarkably friendly and welcoming. Ample seating inside and out, cask ales are really well kept and whilst I don't think any pie is worth £17 (cos I'm a tight sod) it was a decent portion and tasted pretty good. The rooms have everything you need and are clean and tidy with fantastic views (if you have a sea view). At the price point, don't expect hypnos mattresses but, even though a bit on the budget side, I slept remarkably well. Breakfast is well worth taking, was well cooked, presented really well and was tasty and most importantly, everything was hot. Tea/coffee as well as fresh juice was offered and was a nice touch before a long journey. Leo and his team are on their way to building a great venue and whilst some things still require some tlc, they are building a great foundation for success and I can't wait to return

One would like to say this is an excellent place to stay, it is beautiful old coaching inn but with upgraded rooms freshly painted and very clean and with a lovely view (in good weather). We had a very nice bay window to sit in. Sadly it was let down by the lack of staff or staff who were less than friendly. Two instances spring to mind. Half way through breakfast we realised we had no toast. No staff about so we knocked on the kitchen door. No response so opened it and shouted for some time. Eventually someone appeared who grudgingly made the toast, whilst stating the kitchen was closed. On leaving I was taking coats to the car prior to bringing suitcases down when I was accosted by a less than friendly young lady who tersely reminded me it was time to leave and queried who had given me permission to put food on my bill, all with a strong implication she thought I was running away. As we were bringing the cases down stairs she demanded the room key and blithely stated that she had checked that I was paying on a credit card so I could go now but without any chance of a receipted invoice (no offer to help with cases as we had enjoyed on arriving). I then had to wait one hour for the bar to open to get the said invoice E mailed to me. Why have an 11 a.m. checkout time when in theory no-one is available to process checkout until 12 noon? The bar was seemingly run by one rather more friendly but rather harassed young lady who when asked for lightbulb the night before was totally flummoxed, as there was no housekeeping available, and none appeared to do the room during our stay. The message is MORE STAFF AND BETTER MANAGEMENT FOR THIS POTENTIALLY SPLENDID...

We visited The Commodore for an evening meal because we'd been before and it had been superb.||We were cycletouring and arrived into Grange starving after a long day on the bikes looking forwards to what should have been (based on our last visit) a good meal.||It was SO disappointing. Two of us chose the "hot pot" off the specials board - a simple enough meal to make! However, what we received was certainly not hot pot. Lumps of tough, grey, diced meat swimming in brown water with a few tinned peas with it. No, potatos, no carrots nor anything else. It could be served with fries..but hotpot is sliced potatoes on top...why would I want fries with it? It was one of the most unappetising meals we've ever been unfortunate enough to have received. I spoke to the barman who sent the chef out to speak to us because I couldn't eat it...it looked and tasted awful.||The chef agreed it wasn't the best and offered to replace our meals. My husband chose the pasta marscapone which came with a Lidl (?) garlic bread. It wasn't great, but edible. I just had some fries...which were very oily and overcooked. I left 3/4 of them. The other person in our party had fish and chips which was very greasy/oily and over cooked. She ate it because she was starving but she has suffered today.||I don't know what has happened to this place. We won't be returning. ||Incidentally, the chef, when he came to collect our plates...he had been vaping at the bar. As he leant over to take the plates he was still exhaling his vape...grim! But at least he didn't charge us for the...
