The Counting House is a grill and bar on Seaview street in Cleethorpes, its located in an old bank premises which have been cleverly renovated and redesigned into a modern bar and restaurant. It's bright and clean looking place with a casual modern look and atmosphere, with modern background music playing. It has an open plan layout which is all on one level with a good mixture of free standing tables and fixed seating around the periphery. The menus have a modern theme and include grilled meals and handmade pizza (they offer a gluten free dough option amongst their pizza selection),the menus are available online. They have a drinks menu which include cocktails, spirits and wines. The staff were friendly and attentive and provide table service. The wheelchair access is good and it restrooms which can cater for those with disabilities. There's plenty of parking available along the seafront. They didn't appear to have a children's menu here. Payment by cards are accepted here and they have a 5* food hygiene rating. Food review April 2019. I chose a pan fried Hake dish from the daily specials menu. A very well presented plate arrived after a short while. The meal comprising of garlic and thyme roasted potatoes ,a medley of roasted Mediterranean vegetables and a good meaty fillet of Hake accompanied by a sweet red pepper sauce and a garnish of fresh watercress. The fish was perfectly cooked with a crispy skin, being very fresh it imparted lots of flavour, the vegetables had been charred and this paired nicely with the sweetness of the pepper sauce provided.Once again praise to the chef,a nicely executed meal with good flavour combinations, which were also perfectly seasoned. 👌 I paid £14.00 for my fish and a further £2.00 for a decent pot of good quality tea.Well worth the price a really good quality meal which I found very enjoyable. I would happily...
Read moreAbsolutely fuming after arranging a works leaving meal here, they should not take on big parties if they can not cope. Two members of staff trying to serve 37 of us. I gave them a pre order a week in advance and the food was that cold it was as if they made it a week ago! Not one person from our party enjoyed their meal. We was all missing things and when we asked for them eyes got rolled at us. I waited a whole hour for one drink for it to come once I had finished my meal. A few people was running late and even though their meals had been cooked they refused to serve them because they was late which left them with no food at all but they still expected them to pay for it!! When I first arrived there I let the staff know there was two people who couldn't make it and I was told I will need to pay for their meals myself!!! No chance especially when everyone had paid a deposit! Isn't that what a deposit is for?? Absolutely disgusted and disappointed. This meal was the last time we are going to see one of our members of staff and it has been nothing but stress. The main woman serving us was very rude, we understand we was a lot of people to serve to but there is no need for rudeness and slamming tills because we was saying the meals was cold. This woman needed more help from other staff then maybe she wouldn't...
Read moreSaw this old bank having lots of construction last year and on our return to the area was intrigued to see the 'Counting House' was now open. My wife wanted the sea bass on the special menu but was worried about how hot the sauce would be. Immediately, the young man who looked like he could be the manager or owner, offered alternative sauces or to put the Thai sauce on the side. An encouraging start! Our cocktails were delicious as we waited for the food to be cooked. I had the hake, another from the specials board. It was early on a Thursday evening, so we didn't expect the place to be busy and it wasn't- but the environment was pleasant; music not too loud, and the young waiter on his work experience from school, was very attentive. We both enjoyed the best meals we have had in ages! The fish was cooked to perfection and was absolutely delicious. Accompanying vegetables were fresh and cooked to keep all of their flavour. The whole bill for two cocktails and main course, we were too full to even look at the menu, cost £40. Incredible value for such a high...
