While out cycling with a friend, we ended up going through Knutsford, and it was time for our obligatory cafe stop. My friend had never been to the Penny Fathing Museum at the Courtyard Coffe House. We were very disappointed upon arrival to find they have removed all the Penny Farthings. While we were there, we thought we might as well stop for cakes and drinks. The staff were very friendly and we were shown to a table inside as they didn't have any tables outside. I ordered a slice of Pecan Pie, which was very nice. However, at £4.95 a little on the expensive side. I think the coffee I ordered came to £3.20 and although it was a good coffee, the size of the cup for £3.20 was way too small. I questioned a staff member about the size of the cup as to me it was a small cup. The response was that they only had one size. She did ask if I wanted another one. At £3.20, I respectfully declined. My friend ordered a scone with a cup of tea. The scone came with currents in. Unfortunately, he doesn't eat currents, and they didn't have any plain ones. There was no problem swoping the scone for a cake. So the bill came to £16.95. I don't know if this is a normal price for Knutsford Town Centre. It's certainly not the normal prices we pay when we visit the many cafes on our cycling days out. There were a few people having lunch, and to be honest, the food I saw looked very good. Before we left, I asked a member of staff if the Coffee House had changed ownership as the Penny Fathings had been removed. The response was that it hadn't just that the Penny Fathings had been gathering a lot of dust and bringing paint off the walls. The place does look a lot bright inside now. However, for me, it has lost that uniqueness it had, and as a result, I will not be visiting again or recommending the Courtyard Coffee House to my cycling friends anymore. If you do decide to visit, make sure you have a card with you as they do not accept...
Read moreHad the worst ever experience yesterday afternoon 26/10/21. My wife and I sat at one of the courtyard outdoor tables to wait for service. Only another outdoor table was occupied, and some people were sat inside and in the outdoor tent. The place looked like it was two thirds empty.
As no service came, I went inside the cafe and asked if I could have the menu. The waitress told me "We are fully booked so we can't serve you I'm sorry". I said "That is ok, but even just for tea and coffee?" she said "no" and I went back outside to tell my wife we had to find somewhere else.
As as I sat down to think of where we would go next I was shocked that the same waitress came to kick us out of the open air table. She came directly at us and said in a firm voice: "If you're not eating you can't sit here either". I felt so embarrassed as there were people inside the tent looking at this waitress kick us out.
I said to the waitress: "You had already told me we could not eat here, we are going". To my further shock the waitress raised her voice and aggressively said: "I din't say you could not eat here, I said we were fully booked".
I felt paralysed as if someone was trying to start a fight with me. I have never been confronted by any service staff in my life before, this was a new unpleasant experience for us.
I looked at my wife and looked at the waitress and said: " Ok good bye then". And my wife and I left the open air courtyard where we were there was at least another 10 empty tables.
The place looks beautiful but it was completely ruined by this confronting, aggressive and...
Read moreAfter a cold dog walk we had planned to go here as they proudly claim to be dog friendly ( I researched before visiting ) … We were told on arrival by a rude member of staff that they are dog friendly … but dogs aren’t allowed inside 😵💫 … I don’t know what this place thinks dog friendly means 🤔. There were NO tables outside and therefore NOWHERE for us to go with our dog … so I really don’t understand in what sense this place is dog-friendly ?! The staff member continued to tell us they are dog friendly but that we weren’t welcome with a dog which of course made NO sense to us … so we left … went to Gail’s ( which is dog friendly!) . I strongly suggest you don’t say you are dog friendly when you clearly aren’t as we made a special trip because you say dog friendly on Facebook - I find it hard to believe we are the first customers to visit and be told they are dog-friendly but can’t come in and nowhere to sit outside. Please explain is what sense you are dog-friendly? It is fine if you aren’t - but don’t...
