Swung by after getting some Gingerbread - both of us are fairly familiar with the lakes but had never been here. An excellent selection of local beverages - when I’m not driving I’ll have to try the 14% imperial cider, although the apple and blackberry was excellent. The cocktails at £9 were both good value with a decent amount of booze, and tasty. We like the fact that they say how much booze is in them so you know you’re getting your money’s worth! We both had the lamb burger which was excellent - best way to describe it would be a curried burger. Given the girlfriend isn’t normally a fan of lamb burgers she loved it, and we both felt it was very juicy and unusually for us we felt the mint yoghurt provided with it was all it needed - the burger bun was truly excellent. It was also thick enough that it’s twice the thickness of most other pubs. The fries were excellently seasoned, crispy, and fresh. We also had the halloumi fries which were delicious - we reckon there was most of a block of halloumi in the thick-cut portion, and they were well worth the money. We both had the sticky toffee for pudding - an excellent portion size, and one of the best we’ve tasted. The staff were all really friendly and helpful, creating an excellent atmosphere. We‘ve tried a few recommended places whilst we’ve been up, but we feel this really did defy expectations unlike the others. We also thought prices were very reasonable - £18 for a lamb burger, £7.50 for desserts (which in Norfolk are normally £9). For two burgers, the cider, halloumi fries, and 2 sticky toffee puddings we paid just over £70. We’re back again over Christmas and will be sure to return.

Making my second visit to this bar. Home of the small Grasmere brewery. Jorvic and his uncle Deric told me to try a pint of Grasmere Pale. Very good.. There are lovely views of the fells, especially from the rear balcony.

We stopped here for lunch on a whim, as we only really visited for the Gingerbread shop. Anyway, we appeared to get lucky as they sat us immediately on a table reserved for 19:00 (6 hours) but soon after, as we were so close to the door, we could hear them turning away business because they had no more seats available. Good sign I suppose... They did get half of our order wrong but did correct their mistake rapidly and refunded the difference without any problem. They took payment first, which we found a nice change to what we're use to, as there's no "awkward" we want/require a tip situation at the end. You just get up and leave. Right, the main bit. The local ale, honestly wasn't anything to scream about. It was alright but nothing amazing. The Dirty Fries on the other hand... They were amazing!!! Highly recommend and would/will go back just for them. The chips were cooked perfectly, with the right amount of crisp - covered in a chilli con carne sauce with kidney beans and jalapeño, not overly spicy but the right amount of kick & sour cream and melted cheese. This was a main meal and way more than enough!! If you're tempted to get a starter as well as this, DON'T! Unless that's how you roll. I only finished this meal because it was THAT good, I really was full after about 3/4. The staff were polite, friendly and welcoming. Would recommend if you're stopping by just for the day.. If you're lucky enough to get a table.

Dont go here if you are Coeliac!

Food was great quality and they advertise multiple dishes as gluten free but we found a bit of batter in the chips that where meant to be gluten free and my wife was ill after

I double checked when ordering and the lady said yes its gluten free and separate fryer for chips, she seemed annoyed that I asked. I also checked about the main dishes and she said yes they are gluten free. I asked that she highlight to the kitchen that my wife is Coeliac so they need to be extra careful with cross contamination etc. I have to say she was very snappy and rude from the start, i know they where busy but not any excuse to not take care when someone can be made ill by their mistakes

The food came out and my wife started to eat the chips, i then noticed after she ate a couple there was a piece of batter in the chips and showed it to her, she started to worry and went to the bar and asked the lady, she said they are definitely gluten free, she was being rude to my wife like she had done something wrong, then my wife spoke to the chef and said it must have dropped in from fish and chips but the chips are cooked in a separate fryer, but its defeating the point if then gluten gets in after they are cooked. The chef was lovely and very apologetic but the main issue was with the lady who took the order, if she actually listened and took care to speak to the kitchen i know they would have been careful but she couldn't be bothered and then her attitude after made it even worse, my wife was crying with anxiety as she knew she was going to be ill in a few hours and ruined the rest of our day.

Another younger lady came to our table and she was lovely and couldn't apologise enough, all the other staff where great just let down by the staff member

Its a shame as food was absolutely amazing quality but let down by this incident. They should not advertise gluten free if they cannot...
