I live in Southern California. In 1988 I was traveling by car with a friend all over the UK. We were in the area, it was getting late, and I saw a sign that said Ross-on-Wye, and since my last name is Ross I wanted to check it out. We walked into the Eagle Inn, and I told the lady my last name, and we were needing a place to stay for the night. She told me to sit down, she got on the phone and said she had one of the Ross boys here and he needed a room. She set us up at the Eddie Cross house up the hill. She brought us a couple of pints of some tasty ale, and that she would "shout us up when it's ready". I had no idea what she was talking about. Sausages, toast and black pudding missing off the breakfast - how is that possible!!!! We were told that the person taking our order had taken the order down incorrectly but we were not offered an apology or the missing items, even though we had paid for the larger meal. Food was then really poor. Really rude staff who were completely dismissive of us when we queried the missing items and meals. The red headed bloke was quite nice but the other staff were horrendous.
