The Gladstone Arms — Restaurant in England

Stopped off here when the next bus up the hill was two hours away, and also to see what's changed, as I haven't visited for ages. Current management seems very capable, providing many excellent facilities which is particularly noticeable in the Beer garden, with comfortable seating, covered areas, those gas heater things that look like tall metal pyramids, and a variety of settings to suit everyone. Pricing is in line with other Pubs (although this is a restaurant as well), fantastic friendly service. Picturesque at the back too, which is a hard trick to pull off in a town centre location. A great place to eat and drink. The restaurant serves excellent gastro-pub fayre, with (possibly over-) generous portions. The burger is a personal favourite - I always go in thinking I'll order something else, but get drawn back to it. Beware ordering a starter - the menu is alluring (and the food great) but it's a challenge to fit in two full savoury courses! The Sunday lunches are also exceptionally good. In my view, the best in Chippenham.

'The Gladdy' also serves a decent selection of beer (quality lagers and West Country ales) and wines. We were staying in Chippenham and looking for a decent place to eat. We happened to see this pub and looked at the excellent reviews online and must say that the praise given here is very well deserved! The pub restaurant is spotlessly clean and the menu has something for everyone. The staff were attentive and there to ensure that we enjoyed our time. The food was tremendously good and the portion sizes are generous. There is a great selection of drinks on offer and the overall prices were reasonably good so there our experience was totally positive. if only every restaurant was like this!
