We're on holiday in Torquay for a week and had our first holiday evening meal here this evening. The pub is really lovley. Cosy decor and great atmosphere. Tables are well laid out so it doesn't feel too crowded even when it got busier. The food was excellent and goos value for money considering the quality. We enjoyed a truffle shuffle burger, mexican fiesta pizza, kids mac n cheese with fries which was all really tasty and well cooked. Then a bakewell tart, chocolate brownie (both served with amazing icecream!) and chocolate cherry creme brulee with homemade shortbread which were all delicious. The brulee was particularly good. But what really made it was the outstanding service from Adam. Polite, friendly, warm and welcoming. Just the right amount of pleasant conversation to make us feel comfortable but not encroached upon. Very knowledgeable about the menu and drinks and happy to answer multiple questions from our talkative 13yo :). Service was quick (but not too quick) and our food was all piping hot when served . He was efficient and could see he was handling several tables but doing it all seemingly effortlessly! We were really impressed. Unknown to us, our son left a small toy behind when we left and they even called us to let us know they had found it and kept it safe for us to go and collect. We had a really enjoyable time here and will be returning for sure before we go home. Would recommend to anyone in the area!

Popped in after a visit to Kents Cavern. Friendly staff were very welcoming. The pub is light & modern with good music. We were lucky to visit on a Thursday where there was a special on Tapas & Cocktails. My partner ordered the vegan mushrooms & gyozas with a strawberry Collins & Woo Woo Cocktails. I ordered the New York deli steak burger & my daughter the ribs (is a chefs special which should be part of the menu). The ribs came out as a mountain, they were plentiful. All food was cooked to perfection. The New York burger is similar in taste to a Salt Beef sandwich. The mushrooms with the vegan garlic mayo & gyozas were excellent. For dessert we ordered the Brownie & Ice cream (both vegan) & the Cream Brulee cheese cake (again a chef special which really should be on the main menu - it was delicious). The pub itself is very clean & has plug/USB sockets at the tables which is fantastic for travellers. Parking locally is good with many free spots if you can get one. Anywhere we visit now will be compared to the standards set here 10/10

Nice, friendly pub located in Wellswood, Torquay. Varied menu - we went for the homemade beef burgers, which were of very good quality, and really filling. If building your own burger appeals to you there is a wide variety of extras and cheeses you can add. Wish they hadn't been so filling in a way, as would have loved to try one of the desserts on the menu. Good range of cocktails and flavoured botanicals as well. Loved the signed, framed John Cleese 'The Germans' sketch from Fawlty Towers on one of the pub's walls.

Visited here twice now, first time my wife and I had burgers and both meals were very good hence why we chose to return. On our first visit I had noticed that some people were exchanging 'beer vouchers" but I hadn't seen any information regarding this so assumed it must have been a one off event. On our second visit after eating and ordering my fifth pint I again saw someone using beer vouchers. I asked my server about them and was told that if I purchased a four pint pitcher (you don't have to take all the drinks at once they are saved in the pump) you only pay for three. I asked if I could have the offer retrospectively and was told yes but starting with the pint just ordered! I said I hadn't paid for my others yet as we had a tab open but was informed the offer couldn't be applied to the previous drinks. Given it was 10:30pm I didn't want another three pints. I had ordered large fish and chips which was flavoursome and accompanied with a large pot of tarter sauce. This was the only thing on the plate which was large, the fish certainly wasn't. The chips were also frozen chips which again is a little disappointing but quite edible. When we came to settle the bill we expressed our disappointment about the drinks offer to be told that I needed a loyalty card. We asked if we could get a loyalty card only to be told that it was really only for locals who came in every day! This was quite astonishing really as none of the staff could possibly know if we were local or not. As it happens we live in Sheffield but have been coming to Torquay every year for around 50 years and now we are retired we spend around 3 months of the year down here. Unfortunately due to what appears to be shortsighted customer service we won't be frequenting this place again all for the price of a pint! What a shame as staff were pleasant, burgers were lovely and we would have been visiting many more times with family and...

Disappointing.....visited previously and was very impressed by the food; we both had burgers which were the best we had ever had anywhere so decided to go back and try something else from the menu. I had beef lasagne which was very lacking in sauce so very dry albeit very flavoursome, served with chunky chips and side salad (both good). My husband had the large fish and chips which also tasted good but he was disappointed with the portion size of the fish (not large!). Also whilst at the bar he noticed quite a few people had beer tokens. When asked at the bar about how to get beer tokens the waitress said you had to pay for a four pint pitcher and then you get your fourth pint free. At this point my husband was buying his fifth pint so asked if he could get the offer retrospectively as we hadn't paid our bill at this point to which she replied yes you can for the pint you have just ordered but giving it was 10.30pm he would not have ordered at this point 3 more pints to get the offer! On settling the bill with another waitress I mentioned our disappointment regarding the drinks offer and she said the offer is for locals really who come in every night and you get a loyalty card....We asked how to get a loyalty card but again was told they were only for regular customers only. Yes we are not local but we are on holiday here and visit several times a year so a little shortsighted of this establishment to not offer the same incentives to everyone. I would have thought that in this economic climate all pubs would be doing whatever they can to keep their customers! Also conflicting advice from 2 members of staff regarding the...
