Have been wanting to try this place for such a long time and the reviews on here are so good, but unfortunately that’s not what we experienced. On the positive side the waiting staff were very nice, helpful and replaced food when returned etc, but it’s only fair that if you are considering going here you get an honest review.
Unfortunately the food was not good at all. We were a table of 5 (4 adults, 1 child). The first rice that came out was burnt, litterally black burnt bits throughout, we returned it and it was replaced with fresh rice. The sides came out first, rice, spring rolls, chips, sauces etc, but the mains took quite a while to follow, we were all sitting around picking at rice and chips waiting for the mains to come out.
My son who is 13 and a bit fussy ordered a ribeye steak, (I know, but it’s on the menu!) it was wafer thin and 60% fat, for £25 that just unacceptable. We sent that back, they removed it from the bill and gave him the chips for free, so that was nice of the staff.
The szechuan chicken tasted awful, like vinegar, the crispy chilli beef was the same, it tasted tart, like thick, salty, gluey, not nice, not fresh tasting. We left half the food without complaining any further, as quite honestly it’s embarrassing, we could of sent every dish back and had to explain in front of the whole restaurant that it’s just not good food.
Such a shame as it was my birthday, and I chose Yum Sing as I thought it was supposed to be a little more up market, nicer restaurant, but we’ve been left...
Read moreI visited Yum Sing on Tuesday 15 October 2019 in the early evening, a weekday during term time. I was with one other person. This was my first visit. I used Google Maps to find the restaurant, which was easy and led me straight to the right place.
I parked in the car park right outside the restaurant - parking was easy.
The restaurant comprises of a number of medium sized areas each with a number tables with full table service.
The team were very friendly and welcoming and I had no issues - we got everything we expected in good time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
I shared a selection of starters including spring rolls, seaweed, chicken satay and garlic mushrooms then I shared sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style and sweet and sour crispy shredded beef with some chicken rice. The food arrived hot, was well presented and tasted really good. There was a good selection of food and I found something that appealed to me easily. The food was very good value for money, I paid around £25 for two courses and drinks.
Overall I really enjoyed my visit and would definitely come and...
Read moreYum Sing is a great place to enjoy an evening's dining. We've been several times. They offer alcoholic beverages with the meals - admitedly with a mark up - but the food itself is to die for. Several set menus are offered, and there is also an all you can eat night (not experienced). Come away from the set menu and you will find lots on offer - again cooked expertly. They also offer a takeaway service. Staff are genuinely attentive and helpful. Don't worry if you can't use chopsticks - there's no snobbery here. Large parties are catered for too. There is plenty of parking, but the entrance may prove difficult if you're not good on your legs! We always walk as it's not too far from where we live. The restaurant is on the Babbacombe Road, just out of town in Wellswood. We've yet to have a bad meal here, or even a mediocre one. As per all Chinese restaurants, it's easy to indulge your wallet, and Yum Sing is no exception. Expect to spend £25+ per head with alcohol, but believe you me, it will...
