Hubby and I had a gift voucher from Christmas to use, so thought we would go here, as before Covid, it was a favourite for quick and simple meals. Unfortunately, the experience this time was horrific. We booked in advance online so that we could be certain of getting outside seating. When we arrived, they didn't even look at the booking list, just said to find a table where we wanted to sit. We found a table outside, but there was clearly something brewing between some very, very drunk customers, so we moved inside. We were told to get the app and order on there, but we couldn't order on the app due to the gift card, so I ordered at the bar. Staff were not wearing masks, the few that were did not have them over their nose, only their mouth (this was before the restrictions were lifted) and neither were most customers at the bar. A kid came up to the bar (about 9 years old) and I think his Mum worked there. A customer said to him, "I thought there was a confirmed case of Covid in your year and you were all in isolation." The kid said, "Yeah, but I'm allowed out." So, already, my night is starting out negatively. The food was poor. I mean, the order was slightly wrong, the salad was wilted and the bacon was burnt to a blackened crisp. I didn't complain because it meant more contact with unmasked staff. Now, I am not someone who leaves negative reviews easily, I look for the positive, but everything about our night out there left me feeling anxious and uncomfortable, not to mention, the food itself. Bar staff were stating that a group in the outside area were too drunk while still making them jaeger bombs (and then more and more jaeger bombs). Clearly, staff need some...
Read moreI visited The lodge on the 9th February with my partner and my grandson when we arrived the pub had a good atmosphere with a mix of all ages. There were younger ones playing pool, and families having meals an other people just enjoying their drinks. We found a free table an browsed the menu which had a very good selection , my grandson wanted mac n cheese , I chose the ribeye steak and my partner had chose a cheeseburger. I went to the bar and was served by a young lady called Nicola who asked if we wanted any starters or sides to go with our meals to which I replied we were fine, she asked if we wanted any drinks I ordered coke zeros, she was very polite and asked if we wanted a tab incase we wanted to order desserts after our meal so I did and then waited for my food. We didn't wait long before our food arrived the food looked delicious the waitress asked if she could get us any sauces and we tucked in. The chef had really done a great job the food was great my grandson ate every last bit of his meal an keeps asking when we can go again so looks like the big yellow M place isn't his favourite anymore 😀 ! Thanks for a great meal we will definitely be...
Read moreWhat a fantastic venue this is. Set in a huge old black and white former stately home and large grounds with lots of parking spaces to the front and an expansive beer garden to the rear.
I visited multiple occasions with friends to watch the live football on their multitude of TV screens scattered around the venue and sample one of their MANY different beers which range from £2.30 to £5.10 a pint. On the occasions I visited with my wife and two young children we have eaten there from their expansive but regularly changing menu with their food being better than reasonable and service quick to one of their many tables inside or out. The children live playing out back in and around their enclosed woodland areas or in their small play area.
To finish I'd like to mention the staff who are all friendly and welcoming and all want to help. I remember one time my 6 year old dropped her just delivered fish and chips on the floor smashing the plate and resigned to having to go and buy another one I was told that the chef said that I wasn't to pay and that he would replace it for me free of charge! Such a lovely gesture.
I highly recommend this place...
