We spent an evening here recently and can only describe it as unusual - food was fine, nothing spectacular but okay - but the attitude of staff was really disappointing - given that we had made an effort to go in the day before to make sure they could accommodate us and our three large dogs - we appreciate that we are challenging but were assured this was no issue and they could give us the table we happened to be sitting at. We did mention in passing that the large table in the corner would be perfect if free but at no time did we demand or request it. When we arrived for our much anticipated meal we were surprised that there were people already at the table we were allocated - when we queried this we were told they needed that table for a larger group and had decided to move us - to a much smaller table which didn't have the room round it to keep the dogs away from anyone who wasn't as dog friendly as we are. The best bit is that on leaving a review on another site their response was that we had demanded a larger table and we should have been more understanding. That aside - at no point were we offered menus, checked upon during our meal (although apparently according to them we were - hmmmm we'll have to agree to disagree on that one - maybe they whispered it from afar) or any apology or real explanation as to why they had to move us. But this is fine - because we'll not be back - as much a relief to them I'm sure as well as ourselves. So I guess in short this place if fine as long as you agree with them in charge! Disagree at...

Very nice quaint pub by the quayside. We'd booked a table on a Monday evening but it wasn't ready on arrival. We got some drinks first and hardly waited. There was only one beer on tap as all the others were sold out. We were taken to the table and then were told that all the specials and some other menu items were sold out. We ordered some bread and mains. The bread came, and then we waited, and waited. Then a waitress came and apologised as they had no chips but would serve French fries instead. Meanwhile the barman came and apologised to the table next to us as their order hadn't actually reached the kitchen. Then a waitress came and apologised for our wait but said the food was now being plated in the kitchen. Twenty minutes later the food came, and it was nice. We waited well over an hour. Then we went to pay the bill.... and waited about 15 minutes as there was a problem with the till. Eventually we managed to pay, but had to prompt to get the bill reduced. The pub also does food to go, and we could see food leaving the pub as we waited. Two tables that arrived after us got their food before us as well. The food was above average and I'd hope that this was just a bad night for the staff. I've given 3 stars based on the food and the atmosphere and that this was probably a difficult evening for them. The business responded to the review, apologised and insist they are trying to improve. On that basis I've added another star. It really does come across as a nice pub and a caring business with good food. I hope to...

I really wanted to give this place a good review (or, alternatively, move on without comment). However, on balance, I felt our experience deserved sharing. Details below.

-reservation to eat 7pm,got to the place 710, seated no worries though a little hot.

-ordered water and drinks, these showed over the next 15-30mins, suggesting some issues with service

-there were unlit candles on the tables - one of the guests went round with a lighter to light these as the staff were unable

-ordered food about 30 mins in. This showed up 150mins (2.5hrs) later. Clearly this is unacceptable and a view shared through the venue. The staff looked severely under pressure and unequipped to deal with this. While unfortunate this doesn't excuse the venue

-we were told our food would be free in view of the previous point. However, on trying to pay the staff member conveniently 'forgot' this and tried to attribute it to another member of staff who had concinently left. This individual then tried to squeeze us into paying a tip which was denied. This was unfortunate and gave a rather unpleasant grasping sheen to the whole unfortunate affair.

In summary, I couldn't recommend this place unless you enjoy an unanticipated long drinks session without food, poor ill equipped service and weak but aggressive attempts to stiff you for an unearned service charge when you pay the bill. Suspect the market for this is...

Food was cheaper than most places. The skin on fries were good. The chunky chips were half cooked, half kinda raw, cooked on the outside, hard in the middle. The ""burger"" was a generous description for what it was. 2 pieces of slightly burnt toast, a lettuce leaf that was double the size of the patty, and a flavourless burger sauce. Luckily we picked up some ketchup. Picture was taken as I was eating it and after I added the ketchup. Service was good, the pager was a nice touch. The indoor menu does lack vegetarian options which they clearly serve at the order window outside.

Ok, so lovely pub, very friendly and helpful bar staff, brilliant that they offer take away food for when people turn up last minute who fancy a bite to eat .... it's just a shame that bite might not be to everyone's taste. Some might enjoy this food more than others but to me it was just lacking flavour. I've no desire to tarnish this place as there was nothing specifically to criticise, but sadly nothing to praise either. Hope your experience differs. Fyi, we had the 4oz burger, moving mountains burger, cheesy fries and truffle mac and cheese, £32 ish including a pint of coke

What a Catch! We are staying at the Lugger Inn, and went for the 2 x Fish and Chips deal at £22, expecting something modest but decent. What arrived? Two massive plates piled high with golden, crispy fish and proper pub chips—an absolute feast! At £19.50 for a single portion on the main menu, this felt like daylight robbery (in the best way). The fish was spot-on: perfectly cooked with a crunchy batter, and the chips were crispy, fluffy, and full of flavour. A cracking meal and a proper bargain—highly recommended!
