Visited yesterday 18/05. There was a new trainee behind the bar, who was truly trying his best and I always have patience with new staff, there is a learning curve for bar staff. My issue comes from the female presenting member of staff who was also behind the bar. She was visibly frustrated with the trainee. He had poured the pint I had asked for and asker her for assistance with the head creation on the pint. She then took the glass from him and I saw her dip her finger into the glass and hook something out. I then heard her say there was a hair in the glass and that it would need to be redone (this very clearly annoyed her!) - my genuine question here is that, if she hadn’t have noticed I was watching, would I have been presented with a pint that had, had her finger in it? If she noted a hair in the glass there really was no need to hook it out of the glass because the fluid needs to be wasted regardless, absolutely no need to dip her finger in and sets a bad example for a trainee who would be absorbing everything they see.
She then proceeded to continue to appear visibly frustrated with the trainee and completely took over pouring the new pint and finishing the other drink, without getting the trainee to watch her so that he could further learn how to correctly pour this particular beverage.
For transparency, I am a hospitality trainer and assessor, so I instinctively watch when staff in venues im visiting are training.
I had no issue with the trainee, I would have been happy to exercise a great deal of patience or even offer him a few pointers. My issue really was the attitude of the person training him. Her approach wasn't going to foster confidence in a staff member who was clearly nervous on his first day. It made me feel uncomfortable for him and question whether she was even training him best practice standards.
I came to this venue for a relaxing drink but on the onset of my visit I could feel so much tension from the female staff member towards the trainee that...
Read moreHaving been advised to go here for a bite to eat, can't help but mark this place down as a 1 star. From the lack lustre welcome, to the very seemingly 'uninterested' staff, we were underwhelmed from the first moments we arrived. The one saving grace, was a lovely salmon mousse starter, which we commented on how nice it was to the young waiter, but when our mains came out, my wife's was inedible. We tried for at least 15 minutes to attract someone's attention, (it's not like it was busy, as we were the last one's in the restaurant). However the staff were so busy cleaning the bar and chatting amongst themselves, they didn't even notice us. We eventually had to go to the bar to pay our bill, as no one came to pick up our payment from our table, and my wife explained to the manageress, that her meal had been totally over cooked and was rock hard. In fairness, she did acknowledge that she didn't understand what had 'gone wrong' in the kitchen and would deduct the cost off our bill (which seemed a bit obvious as it wasn't touched!!) However they didn't seem too bothered that our meal out had been a real disappointment? Certainly would...
Read moreFrom the offset, I crossed the threshold of the Mitre, for the very first time & was unexpectedly welcomed by the bar human!... who then unexpectedly complimented my date on not only her unbelievably stunning earrings, but also her necklace! Which I did not even consider doing! This bar human was only a genius, but clearly an all round hood good bar human! ...anyhoo, twas indeed very friendly. After moving tables twice, for no real apparent reason, mainly difficultness on my date's part... we then continued yo completely forget about ordering food. Neither of us had eaten & by this point, the lager was hitting hard! A nice human ( different to the bar human) came and asked if we would like to order some food ( he could clearly see that the alcohol was taking affect!Quickly he proceeded to bring us some menus. Furthermore, his human then came back 3 times to ask if we were ready to order? Sadly, we clearly hadn't read the menu! By the time we had decided, we were ravenous! Despite the patient's of our kind human waiter, we fi nilly decided upon eating &...
