Well, where can I start!!!!!! My husband bought for me as a combined Christmas and wedding anniversary gift, a weekend away for 2 nights in Towcester- so for our anniversary dinner out out- with not a child in sight (🙈😀😀), we had to find somewhere to eat for our Saturday night. We found this wonderful and charming Indian restaurant literally next door to the hotel we were residing at for the weekend- and ut was quite honestly the best Indian restaurant we have visited in many years !!! We did book in advance, and upon arrival we were greeted by the manager who allowed us to choose a cosy table at the back of this beautiful restaurant, plus as I am disabled and can't manage stairs it was easier for me to be tucked out of the way (my choice!!) All the staff went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and settled and drinks were swiftly on route- we ordered a bottle of the house wine at about £23 or there abouts- as my husband didn't have to drive and it was our anniversary!! Soon after drinks we had a serving of the most delicious poppadoms- fresh, crispy and just yummy 😋 (and served with a couple of condiments to go with) My husband had a starter of the tikka paneer and the sweet chilli chicken and I did try some- we were blown away at the flavours and the aroma- just delicious!!!(I didn't have a starter as I knew I would never manage my main) he had the king prawn shashlik bhuna for his mains- they were huge!!! More like mini lobsters!!! Delicious, a hint of spice but not too much to overpower the delicate prawns, also for mains we had peshwari naan, and a plain naan plus a side of the pilau rice, I had a main meal of the lamb bhuna- oh my goodness!!! Let's just say I was full to the brim - it was simply the best lamb bhuna I've had for a very long time- the flavours so delicate, the lamb so tender- and there was a lot of lamb within the dish!! The restaurant is beautifully designed and the decor is romantic, small tea lights lit on every table, and what we both loved was that there was no music blaring out, just the simple humdrum of people chatting over equally delicious looking meals. It was personal and we felt like we were made to feel special, like we were the only table in the whole building! We have said we WILL travel back from our home town outside Cardiff, some 200 miles, just to go back for another meal- and we will!!! There are no vast number of tables, so no, the restaurant isn't huge, but it was full by the time we left an hour and a half or so later- at no time were we made to feel we had to leave as there were people waiting- so thank you to the whole team for making our anniversary meal one to remember and savour - we will...
Read moreMy partner and I spent a night away in Towcester (the first time we have been here) and were trying to find somewhere to have dinner when we stumbled across The Moghul Rooms…. with no prior knowledge of the restaurant or its menu, we took a chance and were rewarded with an exceptional dining experience.
From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Norman, who seated us at a quiet, intimate spot for two in the restaurant area - setting the perfect tone for the evening. We started with a round of popadoms and condiments, which were a great way to kick off the meal.
For starters, we opted for the Goan Chilli Chicken, which was bursting with flavour, and the Onion Bhajis. Both dishes came with a side of salad, offering a fresh balance to the rich flavours.
For the mains, we followed Norman’s recommendations and ordered the Chicken Naga which, hands down, was the best naga curry we’ve ever had. The heat level was perfect; spicy but full of vibrant flavours. We also tried the Lamb Bossman, which was an excellent choice as the curries complimented each other well. We couldn’t resist ordering both the Chilli Stuffed Naan and the Garlic Stuffed Naan, and while both were delicious, the garlic naan was the standout because it was smothered in fragrant garlic goodness.
For dessert, on another waiter’s recommendation, we went with a traditional rich and creamy dish made up of milk, nuts and dumplings (can’t remember what it was called!), paired with a lemoncello shot (as suggested by Norman) - a unique touch that rounded off the meal perfectly.
The food was beautifully presented, and the waitstaff were incredibly attentive without being intrusive, giving us the space to enjoy our meal and conversation. The service was top-notch, with the table cleared between courses and thoughtful recommendations offered throughout the night.
In short, The Moghul Rooms is a hidden gem in Towcester. It offers a relaxed, chilled vibe with friendly, knowledgeable staff who clearly care about providing the best dining experience. This was a 10/10 experience, and we will definitely be back soon—next time to try the phall!
Highly recommended and worthy...
Read moreMy visit to the Moghul Rooms was nothing short of a gastronomic journey through Indian cuisine. From the moment we stepped inside, the ambiance and decor transported us to a world rich in Indian tradition, adding a wonderful dimension to our dining experience.
Their signature curry, the Shashlik Bhuna, was a delight. The dish, a hearty ensemble of succulent lamb and chicken tikka cubes stir-fried with onions, tomatoes, and peppers and garnished in a thick garlic sauce, was the star of the show. The depth of flavor was profound, with each ingredient complementing the other, creating a mouth-watering harmony on the palate. Worth every penny of its £15.00 price tag.
We also tried the 'Lamb Boss' and 'Jhinga Jalsa'. This was where the culinary prowess of the Moghul Rooms truly shined through. We asked for these dishes to be cooked to our specific tastes, which is only possible if the ingredients are fresh and the chefs are skilled. To our delight, both dishes were prepared exactly as we requested, a testament to the restaurant's commitment to customizing the dining experience to individual preferences.
The mixed grill was equally impressive, with each piece tasting distinct yet forming a cohesive, flavorful plate. The blend of spices was just right, and the meat was cooked to perfection.
The naan bread deserves a special mention. It had the perfect texture - soft, with a slight crispiness, providing an excellent base to absorb the full-bodied gravies. The daal was comforting, its consistency just right and its flavors well-balanced. The chicken curry was hearty, aromatic, and served as a quintessential representation of Indian curries.
Over the course of our meal, the quality of the food remained consistently high, but the enjoyment didn't stop there. The excellent service and the thoughtful decor contributed to a truly memorable evening.
In summary, dining at the Moghul Rooms is not just a meal; it's an immersive experience that showcases the richness of Indian cuisine. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top-notch culinary adventure. You'll leave with a full stomach, a satisfied palate, and a heart...
