We were really looking forward to our visit to 10 hands for my mothers birthday but unfortunately there were a number of problems. We turned up, after booking and paying a deposit for a table for 7 people (5 adults, 1 toddler and 1 baby in the pram) to be seated at a 4 person table. The staff told us that this was a new policy of the management that any 6 person bookings were allocated a table for 4. The staff on shift were helpful in trying to source a bigger table for us to all sit, this took a while (at least 10 minutes). Finally seated on a 6 person table we were given menus but out order was not taken for at least another 20 minutes (we had to eventually ask). The staff were very busy as the resturant was clearly overbooked. One of our party ordered a dish but asked for different bread. Finally ordered, our food arrived and was OK, not worth the wait and hassle so far but we got on with it. One order was totally incorrect but we just got on and wanted to leave. Finally coming around to pay the bill was mad! The person who had a dish with different bread was charged for a totally different meal with extras like 'extra cheese' and ' extra maple syrup', added on separately (he didn't even have any maple syrup!) this made his total around £20 for a plate of avocado, salsa, bread and jalapeños. A totally vegetarian dish. When we queried the bill we were told that the staff had no control and that it was all decided by 'upstairs' so they had to ask 'upstairs' to change it. Eventually this was resolved and we finally paid and the bar and left! I had brought cake and candles for my mum but we just wanted to get out so left before doing this. I had thought booking ahead and paying a desosit would avoid any issues on the day but honestly this was not a fun experience in the slightest and I wouldnt be back or recommend sadly. The staff were polite and tried to be helpful but it appeared they had no power or flexibility, always saying they had to check...
Read moreFirst visit since March of this year, tables all socially distanced and appropriate information on each table re Covid19, track& trace slips given but no details on how long this information would be held or how it would be confidentially destroyed.
Staff friendly and order taken quickly, the eggs & avocado on sourdough with chilli flakes delicious and cooked perfectly, husband had a BLT on gluten free bread again delicious, nice americano coffee to go with it. Bathrooms locked so staff can monitor usage and cleaning procedures after use. My biggest problem with the cafe was the bill, items are fully itemised which is great, what isn't though was to find we were to charged extra for gluten free bread!!!! No.mention of this extra charge on the menu at all, nor by the staff upon ordering it. I was astonished by this as never paid extra for gluten free anywhere we have ate before. I asked for the charge to be removed , which reluctantly was done. This caused a sour ending to what had been a nice and pleasant experience ...
Read moreThis is for working people: We went to the cafe this morning, after reading that this place was a great work location for people hoping to have a good drink and meal while getting some work done. On arrival I was told that they don't allow customers to use the plugs. We sat down regardless, thinking we can still have a nice coffee/meal and just work while our batteries lasted. There was no WiFi or mobile network coverage either unfortunately. We are with 2 different providers, and none of us had network. This is not their fault. But in the short 3 minutes of us sitting down and leaving we were asked 3 times what we want with the lady clearly getting annoyed at us for not making a choice quick enough. So we decided to leave in the end as we really didnt feel welcome. It's a shame as I was looking forward to this place all week after reading about it.
If you are looking for somewhere to work from, go to Hobbs Coffee instead. Much nicer, welcoming, quiet, you get way more for your money and they have plugs that you are...
