The Orangery cafe and Gift shop at St Mary's Hospice — Restaurant in England

Very disappointed after choosing this place based on its 5 star reviews. Stood around the “Wait here to be seated sign” wondering if we should just go ahead and sit down as staff passed us by. Couldn’t work out if some of the staff were unhappy to host us or whether that’s just their manner. I asked if I could have a Brie and cranberry panini, it is on the menu with Bacon so I asked “without Bacon”. I wasn’t expecting to be served what can only be described as a cranberry panini with a hint of Brie. Honestly I think there was one slice that covered maximum 20% of the panini. To be fair though that bit was very nice, I didn’t eat much of the hot jam sandwich part. The place is nice though, it was pleasant to sit outside with the trees as a view. I’m of the opinion that the food here is usually maybe ok as it looked to be a popular place and other people’s food looked nice. Latest vist 2023: lovely lunch and great service, BUT please get rid of the awful dairy free milk sachets!! They are sweet and disgusting. Staff member said they got rid of the non dairy milk substitute in 1litre cartons as they were having to throw them away. Sorry, but I find it hard to believe you weren't serving 4 dairy free people in 10 days. (I get 4 lattes out of 1 litre). Remember that a quality brand oat and soya (oatly or alpro no sugar) last a lot longer in the fridge than dairy milk, I use oat milk all the time and it easily lasts minimum of 10 days. Just back from our monthly Afternoon tea day. The Orangery cafe this month. Seated straightaway and served within minutes for a pot of tea. Afternoon tea arrived about 5 minutes later, Dietary requirements all met (nuts) with no fuss. 2 adults 1 child. The child's came with the nicest looking chicken nuggets and fries, plus sandwiches and Crisps. Adults came with sausage rolls, quiche and sandwiches. The cakes were absolutely amazing too.
