Typical Wetherspoons inexpensive & busy. Being a rainy day in August I think the kitchen anticipated the rush by 'Prepreparing' the popular Breakfast / Brunch items. The Fried Eggs were small & solid, the Beans were barely moist & Bacon nr murdered. In the past I've preferred their veggie sausages as they were very herby. However, the new ones are utterly atrocious. Rubber Bullets is the nearest accurate description. The meat sausage were ok but.. In hindsight 1230 was a bad time to go. Breakfast finished at 1200 & chips were added for it to become Brunch. I'd have preferred a longer wait for fresshly cooked. Will I go again ? Yes, their Ales are excellent & generally the food is good. Will I partake in Beakfast / Brunch again... No. I understand that a lot of people want everything yesterday & moan if they have to wait. But a lot of the Brunch items served yesterday must have been on the hotplate for ages, the beans probably went in the pot at opening time & had dehydrated during the following hours. Good Pub. Centrally Located. Good Range of Quality Real Ales. A Varied Choice Menu of Reasonably Priced Food. I'd suggest assessing the time of the visit. A Very Wet August Day in Cornwall I should have known would be bursting with holiday makers who are not on the Glorious Beaches, Coast Paths or Interesting Little Towns. As a Post Script my wife points out that this seems to be a Manager / Kitchen problem. We've encountered it in Helston & Bodmin... Yet Truro is above & beyond. No matter how City Busy their fiod is always...

Two years ago I left a five star review for here, which said ........

Exceptional value and great food. We often go here. Can't beat it!

Today. Wow it's gone downhill. Lots of tables not cleared and cleaned down. Sat at a table which hadn't been cleared. Asked when we ordered food if someone could wipe it down please. No one came. Two guys then came out clearing tables with one wiping them down, so we thought ah that's OK they'll do ours. Nope. The guy with the white shirt on and a lanyard wiped his own table then sat down and ate his own breakfast whilst customers were sitting at filthy tables!!!!! Unreal! We asked again and finally someone gave us a cloth so we could wipe it ourselves!!! We put the cloth on the next table as it had just been cleared so thought they'd come back for it. It's still there!!! Yuk! Even with a wet cloth, tables are left sticky! Food barely warm.

(yep I know staff are entitled to breaks but to wipe your own table in plain view of customers sitting at filthy tables looks really bad!!)

Really disappointed. We've been coming here for years but today it really does feel filthy, when hygiene should be more important than ever!!!

Hope you can take this review in the manner it's intended and improve!!!!

I don't know how long you've been open this morning but if the guy sitting eating his breakfast is the manager, get up and help your staff they're doing their best whilst you're having a break after how long?????

The cloth is still sat on the filthy table whilst I write...

I used to meet the girls here for a cheap meal and catch up during the week. And it was the starting point for drinks at the weekend. Even somewhere to get a coffee and answer some emails during the day but weve been a few times lately and the atmosphere isnt the same. Most recently we stopped for a sunny evening beer and yes we were pleasantly surprised at how cheap a pint and a g&t was but upon drinking it it all made sense. The beer was nasty. The 1st mouthfull tasting good the rest like dishwasher. The g&t was the worst iv had. Im not sure how you mess up a gin it comes in a bottle. The glasses did look mucky so perhaps thats the issue. We wanted to sit in the sun but both outdoor seating were full of vaping and smoking which was overpowering so we sat inside but soon had to move as it blew in through the doors. We ended up in the library area which is lovely and quiet but just felt dark and dirty. Weve been to a lot of the Wetherspoons as there easy for meeting people. This one is far from the worst but not the best either. If your after cheap its fine. Quality its...

I came here every night during my four night visit to St Austell - for a drink every night and I ate here on three nights. To be fair, the frequency of my visits is more a reflection of the poor range of alternative pubs and eateries in St Austell rather than a personal obsession with Wetherspoon's. Having said that, the cask ale selection is excellent and they are all well kept. In terms of food, you know what to expect in a Spoon's, and my meals were perfectly ok. The staff were great and the layout of the pub itself is very good. It's well worth a visit because you might struggle to find alternatives.

Very nice looking Wetherspoon pub let down a bit by not very many real ales or any draught Cornish Cider on offer. There's was Cornish gin on offer though. Very busy, lots of people eating. This could be the popularity of Wetherspoons or the fact that there's not a lot of choice in St Austell. 1st night had Steak & Kidney pudding, and 2nd night Lamb Shank. Both very tasty. As JDW seem so keen to promote Locale it was a bit surprising to be drinking Colley's Dog a lovely strong dark ale from Tring Breweries in Hertfordshire. Excellent Caliburn beer from Tintagel Brewery on today (18/8/19).

Tony, the shift manager made our experience absolutely wonderful. I went into spoons for dinner with my 7yr old daugter. She kept fixating on making paper aeroplanes. Mummy could not! So Tony, in the few minutes he had in-between servicing, made the time to entertain my little one, making a paper plane competition and our experience in St Austell spoons, individual. The staff here are wonderful & so caring. 100% recommend. Thank you Tony. Cx
