Zero stars hospitality horrendous - food beautiful - compliments to the chef. We chose to eat our final meal at this local pub while staying in Flushing. Our 1st evening meal we visited The Severn Stars, again lovely food and extremely friendly team. So decided to visit the 2nd local establishment to support the community.

On arrival at the Royal Standard we were met by a young girl, extremely polite who waited the tables. We did have to ask for the door to be closed as we were seated directly opposite it. Not wanting to dine with our jackets on. BUT this has to be cleared by another 1st? Our orders were taken and drinks arrived all of us reminiscing on our week in beautiful Cornwall. There were another party of four seated opposite who were quite loud, using quite offensive language within their conversations. With no thought for others around them.

While we waited the arrival of our meal we were reviewing snapshots of our holiday. We travel to Cornwall numerous times each year. One being during storm Dennis in February, my husband was sharing this experience with members of our family by form of a video on his mobile, which involved listening to the the howling of the wind and the sounds of the sea crashing against rocks at Lizard point. Quite spectacular! Only to be approached by a woman (from the bar) who said 'we do not encourage the use of volume on mobiles'......? We were quite stunned and annoyed - obviously the use of volume from guests and the use of offensive language is encouraged! We ate our meals left and continued our final evening in the more accommodating and welcoming Seven Stars. We will not visit here again on our next stay in Flushing. Disappointgly it was our last experience of the holiday - shame on you. Unfortunately unable to...

My wife and I visited this lovely pub in the very quaint and beautiful village of Flushing. We had seen the pub on our previous visit when it was sunny and it looked busy, inside and out. On our visit it was mid-week and overcast and the pub wasn't busy at all. I sensed this was unusual and I would recommend booking in advance. Parking is at a premium in Flushing and it may involve a short walk to the pub. There is a large area for outdoor dining to the front of the pub as well as a beer garden to the rear. The inside of the pub is decorated with boating memorabilia and very much in keeping with the area. We found that there was plenty of choice on the menu and I selected the "catch of the day" which was pan fried hake with mashed potatoes and broccoli with a cheesy leek sauce. My wife chose the mussels in a marinere sauce with bread. She also added chips to her selction as they were not included. Both dishes were fantastic in both taste, presentation and portion size. The chips were unnecessary as the mussels came with plenty of bread to soak up the beautiful marinere sauce. My hake was perfectly cooked and the cheesy leek sauce is something we will add to our cooking, it was beautiful. The chalkboard menu was being prepared for their out of season Wednesday Curry Night and it looked very tempting for a future visit. Plenty of choice at very reasonable prices. Great pub, great food, great service in a...

In answer to ANNE OLIVER who sent the same msg to the pub. Thank you for your feedback Anne. As you well know as a past flushing resident of 11 years, regatta week is extremely busy. Yesterday we had 42 people BOOKED in here at The Royal Standard, one of those booked tables was the 7 that you mentioned. You know how small our kitchen is and when you mentioned to me earlier that afternoon that you were heading to the pub for food, I did pre warn you that we were fully booked. My staff members have never met your partner so unfortunately weren’t aware that he was with you however that wouldn’t have made much difference to him being asked to vacate a table that was booked. Any member of staff including myself would have ask him to do the same. My chef should not have told you that he could have fed you as YES he might have been able to have cooked for you but we had no tables available for you to sit at. Thank you again for your feedback and perhaps next time you can call or message me directly in advance and I can book you a...

When we went it was nice a quiet we sat out front which is lovely but also there is quite a larger beer garden at the back with a marquee but acces is up some steps. The food we had was fantastic. We had the tapas menu. The makeral pate and humus was well presented and lovely then muscles, fish stew, Scallop and chorizo skewers and potatas bravas. All of it was delicious but I think 5 would of been enough for us, as the more expensive dishes are more like raciĂłn (bigger than tapa). Still my favourite were the muscles. The menu seemed to cater for veterans and vegans too. The prices are about average for England. They also have a good selection of hot and cold drinks. The staff were very attentive and always had a smile. I would definitely recommend lunch or dinner here.

While visiting my brother at university in Falmouth, we took the ferry over to Flushing and found The Royal Standard to be the perfect spot. We enjoyed a lovely roast at a very reasonable price, then soaked up the sunshine on the front terrace afterward—an ideal way to spend the afternoon. We started with hummus, mackerel pĂątĂ©, and cured meats, all of which were delicious. For mains, we had the chicken, beef, and pork roasts, each cooked beautifully and served with a fantastic cauliflower cheese. The pub itself is cosy, with a welcoming atmosphere and a beer garden for those sunnier days. Highly recommend, and I’ll definitely be back on my next trip!
