My friend from Somerset and I went to Falmouth to celebrate our other friends 65th birthday. As the birthday celebrations weren't taking place until 8pm we looked for somewhere to have lunch. Not knowing the area very well we went on the Internet to check for a restaurant near to where we were staying. We found The Greenbank Hotel and restaurant so went in. We were greeted by a young man named Cameron. He said he would have to check with the restaurant Manager if she had a table for 2, we could see perfectly into the restaurant and it was practically empty. He never came back so 5 minutes later having stood by the door feeling abandoned another staff member asked if she could help. We explained we were waiting for Cameron to return, she went away found Cameron who came to us never saying if we could eat in the restaurant. We told him we just wanted lunch, was there somewhere else we could go? He said there was food being served in the working boat which is below the restaurant and hotel. We were shown down to the Working Boat. Fabulous views of the harbour. We sat down then waited for our menus, we carried on waiting until my friend went to the bar to ask for the menus. She wasn't given the menus, they had to be delivered by staff? Anyway we ordered drinks and started looking at the menu. The waitress came back for our order whereupon we were informed the kitchen closes at 3pm! This was now 2:30! We ordered, £15 for burger and Chips. Thankfully the quality of the food saved the day.

New Year Eve Meal at the working boat. Being our local we had high expectations of the working boat for NYE. The second course arrived before the starter and then was told they had run out of king prawns. What a disappointment. The pulled pork was good and plenty of it in the small brioche bun. We then got a starter of fresh olives, spinach, hazelnut arancini. This looked more like a mountain as they were making up for missing us out or it they were using up what was left. The third course of Verdant beer sorbet did the job of cleansing the pallet ready for the disappointment of what was the main course. The fillet steak focaccia was basically strips of steak in a bun, not much different to the pulled pork we had just had. No veg, no potatoes or fries just steak in a bun! The dessert was nice but reminded me of what my mother made back in the 80’s but with a 2019 twist of using mint choc chip ice cream instead of vanilla. In summary, it was ok but I’m not going to tell my six friends about it in the morning.

A mid-week visit in early October to this quaint spot looking over the water, broke up the monotonous routine of working from home. If you have never been here before, just note; it's not the most well signage venue and as it is tucked away from the main part of Falmouth, we did have to keep our eyes peeled, but it was worth the walk. A mix of traditional menu options like fish and chips as well as some other modern classics like mackerel pate and squid in almost a tempura light batter is what we found on the lunch menu. We were informed by the staff that their menu had been streamlined due to COVID dining restrictions but what the management/chef chose to put on the menu was a good variety. Each dish was presented very well and arrived at our table quite quickly. For two people that had a starter, a main and a glass of wine each our meal came to just under £29 per head which I thought was very reasonable. The staff that served us were attentive and swift and made for a lovely lunch spot.

I was a regular patron of the working boat pub quizzes a year ago before moving away from Falmouth but I felt happy to attend upon learning it would be on during my short stay in the area. Firstly I cannot stress how disappointed I am with the state of the quiz. The working boat is a lovely restaurant underneath the Greenbank hotel with amazing food, but the pub quiz was forever a local’s delight to keep people coming back each week. The quiz I endured on the 6th august was hosted by a young lady stumbling and rushing over every question whilst also being the only individual in charge of the bar. When asked to repeat a question we received a snide remark that she would repeat all the questions, although her follow-up attempts were barely clearer than the first. What was especially infuriating, however, was the three individual tables that had their phones out to cheat throughout the entire quiz! It was so blatant that one of their Siri’s was clearly audible during the music round where they had tried to use Shazam to cheat an answer. Silly of me to assume a quiz was the enjoyable test of a teams knowledge and not a test of how well you can use your phone. The same table were also incredibly disruptive, speaking over the questions which is a feat in itself considering the quizmaster was using a microphone. The organisers also elected to not turn on the lights until the last round, by which time the tent was effectively in complete darkness as the sun had almost set. If you are considering enjoying a pub quiz, there are plenty of better institutions worth spending your money on which offer a far...

I suggest you give your staff some attentive training in customer service. Going down to the outside area and not being able to find any staff to get seated and find out what the process to sit and order is. I went up to the hotel dining to find out and the lady asked we go back out side and come back in and start again. Goodness knows why, I just wanted find out what the deal was with ordering and finding a member of staff. She didn't know and said she had nothing to do with the bar downstairs. I suggest that both departments be aware of the procedure especially at that point in time. She was extremely unhelp, self righteous and rude.

We continued to sit outside and order food as we'd walked past the place the day before and were keen to visit for dinner as it looked pretty legit for some good food. I had the Sunday roast......beef was chewy, dry and over cooked as was the yorkshire pudding. Doesn't leave much left on the plate to compliment really. Whether it's anything to do with covid restrictions I don't know but no one checked in on our table to see how our food was, to which I would have voiced there and then. My husband and friends had fish and chips which the fish was good as you expect from a coast town but the chips, fry one to many times over. Extremely disappointing on both fronts considering how great it looks. We won't be visiting again. And it definitely wasn't...
