I visited the pub in the mid-afternoon with some friends and family. We ordered food and drinks at the table, and it took a bit longer than expected for our order to arrive. However, the food was quite decent and filling. I really loved the atmosphere of the pub; it was very spacious. We sat outdoors at the back, and it honestly felt like I was in Greece with the white walls, fountain, and palm trees. It wasn't too busy during our visit, even though it was a beautiful sunny Sunday. I also noticed they had a pool table, which is cool, and I’m looking forward to trying it out. Overall, it’s a nice, relaxed place for a drink and some food.

A warm clear sky day enjoyed our lunch in the courtyard consists of 6 sets table and comfortable chairs (open in sun) they have a covered area with 5 older bench picnic tables (got to lift your leg over - not for me at my age) along with a couple of picnic tables uncovered. A cool working fountain in centre populated with gold fish it is beautifully decorated with well tended hanging baskets along with a couple of palm trees. Tasty lunch ordered inside at bar not long to wait. Great value. Will come back after renovations (22nd Sept 2024)

I had the good fortune to book the Sussex for my mums 90th birthday. It was important for me to get it right and this place did not disappoint! Mike (the landlord) and his team were wonderful, supplying lovely sandwiches and happy to help at all times. There was no pressure to finish-up, which was nice as some people had come a long way and were keen to catch-up properly. The relaxed atmosphere was great...and a good time had by all! Thank you for making the day such a memorable one!

Hi Anna, in relation to your reply to my friends review, I wanted to let you know my thoughts.

Hi Anna,

Just to clarify, we at no point said that our dog was being trained for aggression, we said that we were training him to settle down as he struggles to lie down and relax in new places. He was on a lead, next to us, and got a fright when your dog came around the fountain not on a lead, hence the barking. He has never attacked a dog, and reacted that way as he has been attacked twice and is fearful. We immediately apologised and offered to leave the pub garden and to sit outside the front to which you said no.

I then came in to apologise to you again as I could understand why it had given you a scare, to which you embarrassed me in front of about 8 of your friends, telling me how annoyed you were and saying things like “a dog like that shouldn’t be in a pub garden”, and berating me for bringing a bone, even though we had already offered to leave several times. AGAIN I offered to sit outside the front of the pub and you said no and walked off without allowing me to have a conversation with you. I understand that you have an issue with him having a bone, but we have also seen dogs running around the garden with other high value things such as balls, so I don’t really understand what the difference is? Lots of dogs don’t like off lead dogs running up to them from behind, and had we realised that the pubs owner lets their dogs off lead in the garden (which is fine, it’s your pub!) then we would never have come in for a drink, as it was never our intention to cause anyone any hassle.

Just to clarify, our dog is NOT being “trained for aggression” and we don’t know where this has come from as this is NOT what we said? I tried to explain this to you, and also explained this to your friend.

There is no need for us to have a conversation to clear things up, as that could have happened last night instead of embarrassing a customer in front of a large group of your friends and storming off. We didn’t finish our drinks, we won’t be returning, and we don’t want to be welcomed back to a place that makes their customers feel...

Went to the sussex earlier this evening with family 8 of us in totol. My food was terrible I had the belly pork which the top of the pork was just a floppy peice of Fat not even a crakling top...disgusting had to complain. My mother in law had carbonara DRY was an understatement no sauce at all....disgusting she didn't eat any of it. My husband had a mixed grill, talk about DRY steak...disgusting. Anyway we complained about it but the staff didn't say much. My mother in law and my mum wanted to try the apple pie and ice cream....ok the waiter said. When the apple pie came up you can see it had been microwaved as the pastry wasn't crusty at all ice cream is ice cream lol. I then said we have to order at the bar and pay for them as you do for your main meals..He said don't worry about paying because of the problem with our meals we said ok thank you...them the waiter papered again and said sorry you have to pay for one dessert my manager said....bloody liberty knowing and he could see the problems with some of our meals.. We have eaten here on a few occasions but tonight was...

We went for my daughter’s birthday 19 of us we booked the table so they knew it would be a big party and a lot to cook for if this is too much we should have been told when booking we were also not told that the kitchen closes at 8 when the booking for 19 was at 7. The food took ages some of us didn’t get any as it was wrong and then we were told the kitchen is now closed the waiter had no idea of which dishes were coming out of the kitchen and were then left to go cold so some of the party had food and some didn’t he took a Notoriously PIG back and brought out a Chicken Stacker we were later told he was new maybe would have been a better idea to put a more experienced waiter on for such a big order.

We were giver £12 back we spent much more than that considering there were 19 of us we were then told we could go and get fish and chips from across the road with our refund and bring it in.

We have used the sussex for a few years now but will not be returning.

(Its a real shame when establishments will not accept and...
