I paid £133 for the smallest room option for a booking in the middle of the week in off season (ie mid January). Check in process was a bit wobbly but overall fine. And while I don't mind cozy spaces, the shower space was very (and unnecessarily) tight. In addition, the plastic toys littered in the garden were in line with an overall sense of the property being somewhat poorly attended to. Not what I expected for the price, and for the 5 star rating. Inside, the decor of the main reception room and stairwell halls was that of odd contemporary framed pictures (akin to pictures of gum wrappers) with pots of plastic flowers / plants throughout. Again, not quite what I expected from the photos. To top it off, the breakfast room was too chilly for comfort. I understand the political and economic needs to turn temps down, but refusing to the allow breakfast to be had in the room to compensate for this was disappointing, not that the menu offerings of typical breakfast fairs (mushrooms on an english muffin being the most innovative) were overly appealing. (I dined out elsewhere). In short, this was a much over-priced stay; this coming from a reviewer who knows the BTN and Hove hotel market well, as I've been staying in various hotels weekly during a many months long renovation process of my local home. To my fellow travellers: better values for price are available elsewhere throughout this beloved city of mine. I do agree with prior reviews, though, that the location is fantastic, and the insides of the rooms are...
Read morewould give minus stars if available. Was treated to afternoon for my 70th birthday by my daughters, the most horrendous experience ever. I have experienced afternoon tea many times, nearly every establishment in Brighton including the Grand also the Ritz in London so I am well versed on the experience.|Where to begin, on entering the room there was a terrible smell of burning rubber (this was later blamed on the deflated balloons in the room,,). The tea arrived after a long wait, weak, cold and when we removed the teapot lid no signs of any teabags or leaves. We complained and were given a fresh pot which was hot but still weak and minus teabags. The sandwiches were stacked on a plate not on a cake stand. The cake stand came after we complained with one minute scone each and the smallest macaroons you have ever seen. There was a brownie cube and a slice of stale Victoria’s sponge. We left all the cakes and couldn’t wait to leave. We were the only customers there and now I know why. To top it all I told my daughter not to pay the full amount as the experience was horrendous which met with fury from a very rude assistant manager. After a stand up row we paid with a small discount and left felling sick from the smell of the room....
Read moreBooked the classic room, considering a five star b&b. The room 12 on the third floor was equipped with a old spring mattress without topper. The shower is only for very slim people, ca. 50 cm wide only. I claimed that this room is not 5 Star and asked to change the room. I had been offered alternatively the superior room no. 6 for additional 25 GBP per night. This room is much better equipped and ca. 20 sqm, but with dirty carpet - for 125 GBP you could get as well other good accommodation. Beds are in our personal opinion not very good - compared to other b&b. Whole building is scaffolded due to reconstruction work. Breakfast: nice breakfast room. 4 different higher quality cereals, fresh fruit salad whereas only few strawberries and kiwis as decoration, mainly honey melons. 2 different juices, unfortunately not 100 % juices. We ordered salmon with scrambled eggs on engl. muffins - quality was good, could be a bit more. Close to the hotel are a couple of bars and restaurants, walking to the Lanes takes ca 30 min. Conclusion: not bad place, but I expected a bit more from a 5 Star b&b - compared to others we have booked the last two weeks. I would choose next time another place more close...
