STOP PRESS: It’s not really fair: 4.6 overall, should be 5.0. It looks like old reviews from years back have been counted in, and I seriously suspect from the times when previous proprietors were running the tea room.
We stopped by for a late’ish lunch, having visited a particular local business, and a few of the high street shops. The Town Hall Tea Rooms is already highly rated here on Google, and we couldn’t agree more!!
We were served by a lovely gentleman: first thing a good thorough clean of the table surface, obviously for germs but it was pretty clean to start with, that’s a very good sign for me - and no gaps in the wiping either, that doesn’t often happen - yes, I check the reflection across the surface (sad, I know)!! :)))
A good range of choices on their menu: we both decided to have sausage baguettes, one also with fried eggs, but there were plenty of other options.
We didn’t have to wait long, very nicely presented meals arrived, of course after our drinks had already been served (I’ll say here: a great cappuccino - decaf and skinny!). The generous salad garnish was lovely and fresh, the cherry tomato (Roma?? I’m not an expert) particularly was really flavoursome.
We really enjoyed our baguettes. Oh and the side order of chips was massive - and they were nicely cooked, good chips too - Ok I did order a large, but between us we just couldn’t finish all of them.
Their cakes looked delicious but due to overeating on the main course, we just couldn’t manage to fit one in on this occasion.
A tea, a cappuccino, Pepsi Max, plus the two baguettes and chips, a little over £20!! How can they do it?? Amazing. Definitely a candidate for a decent tip, and yes I did: I tip carefully but they definitely deserved it.
And all in very pleasant surroundings too.
Next big indicator for me is the WC, care, thought and attention had gone into making it a cut above.
As I was paying (and tipping ;) ) a lady appeared from the back, presumably the person running the kitchen, she was also very nice and friendly, all adding into a great lunch experience.
Hats off to them both.
If we are back in the area again in the future, it will definitely be...
Read moreWe've just had lunch here. What a nice place, right on the main street through Wooton Bassett, plenty of outside eating, but given the level of heavy traffic, we decided to eat lunch inside, which is TINY! We got seats and made ourselves comfy. We were surprised at how extensive the menus is, and both chose the baguette with brie, bacon and cranberry sauce. The arrived quickly, very hot and with a lovely lot of filling. The filled baguette had been toasted, with the end result that the brie had melted and the bacon was still sizzling hot. A small green salad accompanied this. We ordered iced coffee and it came promptly and was very welcome. My friend says the loos are nice! Charming gentleman served us, and a shy girl took our orders. A really nice place to visit. Wooton Bassett is a lovely town, and I shall visit , I know how not to get lost in Calne!! Thank you the Town Hall Tearooms for rounding off a...
Read moreEdit: Not as great as previous visits. Cup was dirty, cake was dry and was just tea bags for the tea which wasn't the best of tea.
Also the new owner was a bit overly defensive about not accepting card, with all the other tea rooms taking card would be worth mentioning it to customers or having a sign (my last visit I do recall using card but it was a year ago). Could tell other hadn't realised this as one customer after hearing this left for a cash machine (most of which on the high street are now closed).
(Original: Very cute and quaint tea room. Preferred the old name of the place and shame it now has a tacky plastic sign out the front. However the rest of the atmosphere is still all traditional inside with great cakes and food to go with your...
