I honestly don’t think this place justifies the 4.7 star rating it has on Google. I am Nepali myself and have been to countless Nepalese restaurants up and down the country. I brought a friend here on Tuesday (his first time trying Nepali cuisine), and I even messaged the restaurant beforehand on Instagram to check if they were authentic — they assured me they were. Unfortunately, I was left disappointed.

The service didn’t reflect the warmth and hospitality Nepalis are known for. It seemed like a family-run place, and while the man serving us wasn’t rude, he wasn’t particularly welcoming or approachable either. The waitress appeared more focused on chatting with family friends than looking after the tables. With only three other tables occupied, it wasn’t a busy night, so the lack of attentiveness stood out.

The “fresh homemade lemonade” was another letdown — it tasted like bottled lemon juice mixed with sugar syrup and water. It arrived in under a minute, which confirmed it wasn’t freshly squeezed. Having worked in hospitality and mixology myself, I can say with confidence that it wasn’t freshly made.

Food-wise, it was a mixed experience. The chicken choila didn’t taste authentic at all and probably should be called something else, but the chilli momos were excellent — easily one of the best I’ve had, so I would recommend that dish. The chicken chowmein was good and exactly what I’d expect. However, the thakali masu bhatt set was very disappointing. The traditional touch of pouring hot ghee (butter) over the rice — which is central to that dish — was completely skipped. I had hyped this up to my friend, as it’s something done in every authentic Nepali restaurant, so it was a real letdown.

Service again fell short during the meal. No one checked in on us for drinks or asked how the food was, yet I noticed the table next to us being asked for feedback.

I don’t enjoy leaving negative reviews, but I feel it’s important to share an honest experience, especially when a restaurant claims to be authentic. This wasn’t the worst meal I’ve had, but it was far below what I’d expect from a 4.7-star rated “authentic...

We went there after a work colleague reccomended it, wish we'd not bothered.

For drinks we had 1 x plain lassi and a banana lassi. these were ok, although the portions could have been a bit bigger.

We had Popadoms & chutney as a starter. The chutney (pretty much a liquid, not great) was served in what can only be described as an egg cup, it was tiny.

For mains, I had Ghurkhali Pork and my wife had Everest Lamb. The online menu suggests that they should come with rice, but the menu provided to us in the restaurant said otherwise which is pretty poor given the prices being charged, so we added a portion of Basmati rice and a portion of black lental Daal.

The main portions again were very small and really not that tasty, just fairly tough chunks of meat in a rather generic sauce.

To top off the experience, I made the mistake of adding a tip. The bill came to about £44 and I suggested to the waitress that took the payment that she add 10% as a tip. I ended up being charged just over £50, so I guess maths is not their strong point either.

Just avoid, plenty of other places to...

Wonderfully flavorsome, excellent food! Went in for dinner with two friends on a recent Friday night. We started with a selection of vegetable and pork momo (dumpling). They were soft, well spiced, and delicious, and came with a very tasty and mildly spicy dipping sauce.

For dinner we each had a meal plate and I could not have been happier with mine. I had the vegetarian plate which came with a black lentil dal-style dish, stewed vegetables in a tomato and ginger (I think?) sauce which included wonderfully succulent bamboo shoots among other things, a bowl of well seasoned sauteed veg, a large pile of rice, a huge and crispy papadam, and a mild and delicious chutney. It was so much food! Too much for me, really, but I couldn't stop eating it. Everything tasted fantastic. Can't wait to go again, but I will order a stand-alone vegetable dish next time instead of the large meal plate. My companions had lamb meal plates. Was too busy eating to ask how theirs was, but they cleaned their plates, so seems...

This is a beautiful place representing authentic Gurkha and Nepalese cuisine in the middle of York which is family run and been here for the past 10 yrs. For starters : The chilli momo is MUST TRY. We tried the chilli momo filled with chicken which was absolutely amazing and highly recommend. Then we had the Sukuti which was beautiful and authentic. The spices were spot on and not at all overpowering. For mains: We had the chicken thukpa which is an authentic soupy noodle with a hint of coriander and cumin perfect for the cold weather. We also had the Daal Bhaat Maasu which is HIGLY RECCOMENED. It is a beautiful medley of rice accompanied with black dal... A side veggie curry and a beautiful lip-smacking chicken curry. Along with this beautiful food we had the Jaikhatte which is an authentic liquer coffee which is a must try and the Kodoko Raksi which is a local Nepalese alcohol made from millet which was very smooth. I am definitely coming back for more!!!

This restaurant was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. The decor is cosy, staff are friendly and helpful when ordering. They take time to explain the menu and describe meals. As a party of seven we ordered a great selection from the menu and then passed the meals around the table to all taste 😋 The standard meals have a good portion size. The inclusive meals are filling and so I didn't need to order my starter however I love Mo:mo 😍. You can see two of the inclusive meals below the Dal Bhat Masu (chicken) And Dal Bhat Macha(salmon), both are delicious. The chow mein was so tasty and the Gurkhali Pork was a huge hit. The only meal we ordered which was not as much of a hit was pork belly (Dharane sungur ko masu) this is a dry cooked meal, the pork belly fat wasn't rendered as much as we would have preferred. Still gald we ordered it to try though. There is a flight of stairs to reach this restaurant as it is above another business.
