The staff were great and very quick to provide us a table despite not booking and just wandering in off the street, an inconvenient start for them I’m sure. However they welcomed us, sat us and immediately asked if we wanted something to drink. I had a glass of apple and my boyfriend had a martini. We were served them within a minute or two of ordering them. We looked through the menu and I ordered a Margarita pizza and chocolate cookie and gelato and my partner ordered a pasta dish and a brownie with gelato. After about ten minutes the main arrived and I do have to say the pizza looked a bit sad for almost £10 the sauce was like eating tomato purée and the cheese was barley existent and the base a bit chewy. I had to order a side salad just for some flavour afterwards, which was lovely. My boyfriend said his pasta dish was great but could do with a bit more sauce. Once we finished a waiter immediately came as cleaned up our dishes and then five minutes later brought out our dessert. We decided to split each dessert in half and each try the others and by golly they were gorgeous, generous desserts. I could barely finish mine let alone my boyfriends. Absolutely lovely and the gelato was very melty. I’d go again for anything but the pizza. Really good staff however.

Do not get me wrong, the food was lovely and the service was great, it was just a shame with how it all happened. We had some vouchers to use up by the end of the month and it had a monetary value of £40. Although we had a plan B food option we ask our attendee if it would work on the Valentine's menu. She said it definitely will but will check with someone else to make sure - got the confirmation and made our food purchase. It was a busy time for the restaurant and it showed, it took 30 minutes to get our drinks, and did not end up getting the included 'fizz' with the Valentine's menu. 45 minutes wait between our starter and main course. Then after dessert was the inevitable food bill and hoping to pay for just the drinks. Our bill came to around £45 which was expect and it turned out only one of the vouchers worked (£20) because of the drinks we ordered even though the drinks were not included in the voucher and we knew about that. Then our server tried again and it turned out the Valentine's menu did not work with the vouchers, so we were forced to pay £25 for a mistake made by the staff members.

My visit to York Bella Italia has to be the worst experience I have ever had. I've visited a number of these restaurants and they have always met the mark. However, on this occasion, the staff were far from attentive, not friendly or welcoming. As for the food, the starters were cold but edible, and as for the Carbonara, the order was wrong, and we had to wait for a replacement. When it arrived, it was swimming in a pool or what I could only imagine was butter or water. Both mine and my partners carbonara were bland despite adding seasoning. No one checked how our meal was. The restaurant was quiet with not much of an atmosphere, and staff were standing around chatting instead of checking on diners. I wouldn't recommend this Bella Italian as it falls way below the standard of the franchise.

We visited this restaurant as we love Bella Italia and it's cuisine. We were offered a table and ordered our meal. I asked the waiter how his day was going to which he answered that being busy was good for the management but not for him as it meant he had too much work to do. Our starter arrived and as usual was lovely. More people came in and were seated. Some three tables in fact, all of which got their main meals before us. I enquired to a young lady (that I now know to be the duty manager) if she would mind seeing where our main meals were as we had been waiting over half an hour. They were brought straight to us and as usual were delicious. The waiter was very loud with a booming voice but didn't actually seem to be doing much. We sat for another 30 minutes after we had finished our meal before he pushed passed me and cleared the plates from the table. We did intend to ask for the sweet menu but he didn't even offer it as one of the other tables had been given the wrong bill by him and they were not happy at all. We decided against having a sweet as things were heating get up and we asked our waiter for the bill. We then waited another 40 minutes as other people came in and sat themselves while he was making alot of noise with his booming voice and not doing alot else. My husband got up and gave him eye contact asking to speak to his manager as he had ignored us and was just plain rude. The manager arrived and we explained our negative experience of this waiter. She offered us money off our bill but it would have been wrong to take it as the meal was lovely. It was about the lack of service and not looking for a discount. Diabolical service does not deserve a reward. Too many people expect a tip instead of looking at it as a bonus for...

Booked a table last minute on 22nd Jan. Given that this restaurant had availability on a Saturday evening, I was expecting there to be some catch (e.g. poor food). BUT, how wrong I was.

First of all I requested a table where people could not walk around me (not central). I was not expecting my request to be accommodated but it was. I was seated in a booth, which I was thrilled with.

Secondly I decided to sit facing the kitchen. I have to say that the tall, slender chef with short dark hair , dark stubble (wearing a green hat) was on fire! Honestly, constantly on the ball. I am not sure if he was the one in charge, but that kitchen ran like clock work. Hats off to the gent and staff in kitchen!

Thirdly, the food was lovely. I had the chicken wrapped in parma ham with potatoes, and bruschetta (gluten free). It was delightful. Well presented and lovely flavours. My child loved the kids meatballs. My husband loved his meal also.

Service was brilliant. Staff were so efficient. No long waits, wrong orders. They were spot on. So well done waiting staff!

The one criticism I would have, is that the carrot sticks and cucumber that came with dough balls off of the kids menu were seasoned with pepper (or something that was hot and spicy). This was not listed on the menu and I would advise against seasoning children's food with such spices.

However, all in all I would not hesitate visiting this restaurant again. Lovely atmosphere, staff and...

5 of us, 1 of whom is Coeliac and Diabetic eating out isn't easy. We were away at the start of our holiday near York so we went to Bella Italia as they have more than 1 thing gluten free.

Absolutely gutted the secret roof garden was closed. Our eldest is 18 now and last time we ate here he was a little bit older than a toddler. So loss of a star for no garden.

4 of us ordered pasta for £5 and the Coeliac ordered a pizza. Food took a little while but they warned us of this before seating us so I'm not penalising for that. We were also seated in a lovely alcove at a big round table rather than a booth which was much better.

Food was lovely, my eldest cleared his plate then ate my leftover bolognese. The pizza was a bit greasy on arrival from the pepperoni no doubt but my youngest wasn't too impressed, however once he was eating he enjoyed it and cleared his plate.

Food, drinks and a desert came to £75 which seems pretty fair. I dread to think what we would've paid at full menu prices tho but that pasta for £5 was a brilliant offer.

I'd definitely eat there again same as any Bella italia due to their excellent Coeliac support which included desert which NO ONE does. Just get the garden open and I'd give 5 stars.

For Bella Italia

Staff you had on on 3rd July early evening were great and you should praise them for working hard in the heat whilst...
