We visited this restaurant as we love Bella Italia and it's cuisine. We were offered a table and ordered our meal. I asked the waiter how his day was going to which he answered that being busy was good for the management but not for him as it meant he had too much work to do. Our starter arrived and as usual was lovely. More people came in and were seated. Some three tables in fact, all of which got their main meals before us. I enquired to a young lady (that I now know to be the duty manager) if she would mind seeing where our main meals were as we had been waiting over half an hour. They were brought straight to us and as usual were delicious. The waiter was very loud with a booming voice but didn't actually seem to be doing much. We sat for another 30 minutes after we had finished our meal before he pushed passed me and cleared the plates from the table. We did intend to ask for the sweet menu but he didn't even offer it as one of the other tables had been given the wrong bill by him and they were not happy at all. We decided against having a sweet as things were heating get up and we asked our waiter for the bill. We then waited another 40 minutes as other people came in and sat themselves while he was making alot of noise with his booming voice and not doing alot else. My husband got up and gave him eye contact asking to speak to his manager as he had ignored us and was just plain rude. The manager arrived and we explained our negative experience of this waiter. She offered us money off our bill but it would have been wrong to take it as the meal was lovely. It was about the lack of service and not looking for a discount. Diabolical service does not deserve a reward. Too many people expect a tip instead of looking at it as a bonus for...
Read moreBooked a table last minute on 22nd Jan. Given that this restaurant had availability on a Saturday evening, I was expecting there to be some catch (e.g. poor food). BUT, how wrong I was.
First of all I requested a table where people could not walk around me (not central). I was not expecting my request to be accommodated but it was. I was seated in a booth, which I was thrilled with.
Secondly I decided to sit facing the kitchen. I have to say that the tall, slender chef with short dark hair , dark stubble (wearing a green hat) was on fire! Honestly, constantly on the ball. I am not sure if he was the one in charge, but that kitchen ran like clock work. Hats off to the gent and staff in kitchen!
Thirdly, the food was lovely. I had the chicken wrapped in parma ham with potatoes, and bruschetta (gluten free). It was delightful. Well presented and lovely flavours. My child loved the kids meatballs. My husband loved his meal also.
Service was brilliant. Staff were so efficient. No long waits, wrong orders. They were spot on. So well done waiting staff!
The one criticism I would have, is that the carrot sticks and cucumber that came with dough balls off of the kids menu were seasoned with pepper (or something that was hot and spicy). This was not listed on the menu and I would advise against seasoning children's food with such spices.
However, all in all I would not hesitate visiting this restaurant again. Lovely atmosphere, staff and...
Read more5 of us, 1 of whom is Coeliac and Diabetic eating out isn't easy. We were away at the start of our holiday near York so we went to Bella Italia as they have more than 1 thing gluten free.
Absolutely gutted the secret roof garden was closed. Our eldest is 18 now and last time we ate here he was a little bit older than a toddler. So loss of a star for no garden.
4 of us ordered pasta for £5 and the Coeliac ordered a pizza. Food took a little while but they warned us of this before seating us so I'm not penalising for that. We were also seated in a lovely alcove at a big round table rather than a booth which was much better.
Food was lovely, my eldest cleared his plate then ate my leftover bolognese. The pizza was a bit greasy on arrival from the pepperoni no doubt but my youngest wasn't too impressed, however once he was eating he enjoyed it and cleared his plate.
Food, drinks and a desert came to £75 which seems pretty fair. I dread to think what we would've paid at full menu prices tho but that pasta for £5 was a brilliant offer.
I'd definitely eat there again same as any Bella italia due to their excellent Coeliac support which included desert which NO ONE does. Just get the garden open and I'd give 5 stars.
For Bella Italia
Staff you had on on 3rd July early evening were great and you should praise them for working hard in the heat whilst...
